What's your next knife?

Based on its edge retention it should sharpen like S30V. Mine didn’t take long but I was using a Wicked Edge so that isn’t much help.

If you want, let me know and I’ll put a microbevel on my Mule Team Magnacut free hand and report back.
The toughness of Magnacut is as impressive to me as it's hardness. Makes for quite a combination in a well executed knife.

It’s a unique steel. I’m looking forward to getting the Native 5 in Magnacut and beating on it some.

I like knives, have quite a few, but only recently came across an interesting comparison video that -- for my purposes -- identifies the Spyderco and SOG brands as most suitable. YMMV

I really enjoy this guy's videos.

I did a little reading on Magnacut, because you mentioned it in your post. One of the things I'm working on is relearning to freehand sharpen. I'm not sure I want to do that with Magnacut.
I just sharpened my son's Magnacut Mule. It was still on the factory edge so I cut it off. It raised a burr very fast, faster than S30V. Finished up very sharp, better than S30V. I don’t think you will have any trouble with it at all.

I have the Native 5 in CPM S35VN and I am quite happy with it.
I do as well and it’s great. I also have one in S90V and SPY27 and my wife has one in S30V. It might be my favorite Spyderco.

I'm surprised. Pleasantly, but surprised nonetheless.

I don't know what my next knife is per se, but I know I have four coming that are already paid for and a custom book order that is not yet paid for but will be up for completion in the next three months. Oh, actually I have another custom book order that hopefully will be September but honestly probably not until the end of the year at least, and two more book orders that are probably mid 2023.

Tactical Pterodactyl Mid-size Raptor will probably make it first, should get it in the next week or two I would think. That one is will be my first Magnacut knife.

Then I have a preorder Brian Brown Knives Yeager-M folder that will probably be the end of next month.

The June-July custom is another Night Watch Knives custom. Really little, pointy wharncliffe in AEB-L and lager G10.

And two Carothers Performance Knives, one Utility Fighter v2, full fancy version with desert ironwood handle and satin full double dagger grind; and one Defensive Everyday Knife in antique edge-cut micarta and Magnacut.

The September custom is a Vehement Knives Corsair. My book order went in on that one more than a year ago now.

The 2023 customs are Dan Tope Knives - I have book slots but haven't determined what I'm getting made yet.

Good luck, Sir!

From what I've seen, you are definitely up to the task!

You’re too kind, sir. I almost bought a second one during that sale. That’s a great price for 20CV.

I finished sharpening mine and was pleased with the results. I can say that removing material from 20CV was easier than S30V, however, getting rid of the burr took significantly longer. For a long period of time each pass would just flop it over to the other side, though you could tell it was becoming smaller over time as well. When I finished up stropping, certain parts of the blade would just lop hair in half instead of whittling it. I don’t know which is better, but this knife is very sharp and has a nice, even bevel.

Sharpening a true wharncliffe is much easier than a blade with a belly/curve to it. For some reason the lighting in this picture makes the bevel appear uneven but it isn’t. I was pleased with the evenness.

Appreciate all your continuing insights on free sharpening, and sharpening in general!

I seem to be amassing a bit of a Wharncliffe collection lately -- so your comment on the relative ease of sharpening is especially appreciated. :)
