What's your off-the-beaten-track dream gun?

Josh beat me to it...

As for me, I would like a Strayer Voigt with a custom seven inch slide and full frame dust cover chambered in .460 Rowland or, perhaps, the .50 Gi. I want the front end squared and spiked like the guns on Equilibrium, and I want fullt adjustable TFO sights, an integral tactical light and crazy modern engraving.

Also, a revolver like in that anime, I think it is Van Helsing, that is a .454 break open with an eight inc barrel.... YES.

How about a gun using Metal Storm technology, where a small arms rifle/pistol is electronically fired...that would be neat.

for a while remington made such an electronic ignition system, the idea being that setting of the cartridge using a shock of electricity was faster than hammer hiting primer, primer sparking, spark catching powder, so accuracy would supposedly be better from the standpoint of consistency as well as less time to move the gun from where it was when you pulled the trigger.

It never caught on though. A few problems, people didn't like the idea of a battery powered gun, had to get special ammo for it, the increased consistency only increased accuracy in theory, was immeasureably small in reality. Also the idea of less time between trigger pull and bullet going out teh barrel...again real world showed that the time between FINISHING your trigger pull and the bullet exiting barrel was extremely small and almost unchanged by this...but there was still plenty of time to move the gun when pulling trigger from start to finish.

I don't know that I'd call them "dream guns" but these are the unloved guns I love:

Sig P225 This one is no longer imported, and I've heard the argument "Why would you want a single-stack 9mm that big? If I'm only gonna have 8 rounds, I want them to be .45 caliber." But I don't care what other people say, I love mine. The single-stack makes the grip perfect for me as I find the double-stack 228 kinda portly.

Finnish M28 Mosin Nagant I found this worn looking rifle laying around at my local gunshop while I was in there getting work done on something. When I asked to see it, the guy behind the counter was a bit surprised. It's seen better days, and to a lot of people it's just an old rifle but I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it up close. Ever since I got my second Finnish M39, I've always wanted to get one of the earlier models just to see the lineage. They wanted $100 and since it still had a shiny barrel with no pitting, I bought it! To me, it's a very historic gun, with a Swiss made barrel and assorted re-used Russian parts put together by Finns. Also it has six "kill notches" carved into the side of the stock.

The only other oddball-type stuff I want is a broomhandle Mauser (like half the people here) with the shoulder stock and in 9mm Luger and an AR-7 that actually works.

I'll take a commander sized .50 GI. No light rail, no forward serrations, arched MSH, short trigger, novak plain black sights, ed brown grip safety, hard chromed, black smooth thin alumagrips with a window to see how many rounds left in the mag (like the ASP).

And a 12g semi auto pistol that uses the short Aguila shells.

A 1911 sized .32 ACP machine pistol. Similar in concept to the Scorpion but something that looks a little more conventional.

Since I've seen a few "what-if" guns already...

I had a truly evil thought: A Saiga .45-70. The Saiga .410 action is big enough, and a Saiga .308 barrel could be rebored (or a bigger one made) to .45.

In The Box O Truth #4, the author says:

"Moral of this lesson:
Don't get in any gun fights with buffalo hunters. There ain't no such thing as cover."

'Jedi

while your at it I'll take Han's DL44, two DeLisles, a quad mount Browning .50 cal., a naval mount M2, a Steyr AUG with a 9mm subgun conversion kit and two Colt 635's, one in 9mm and one in 45 ACP.

Did anyone else hear read the Small Arms Review article on the SMG 1911 designed/built in the Philippines? It was a good six months ago or so, I think. Hi-cap frame, modified sears/hammer, and a folding foregrip! Now THAT would be really cool to own (non-SOTs need not apply :( :( :( ).

A couple spring to mind:

A Mateba revolver - funky, but in a good "Bladerunner" kind of way.

However, I think it would be very cool indeed to own a Tippmann .22lr Browning 1919 water-cooled. Perfect for hordes of miniature zombies, and probably the only full-auto gun I could afford to feed with any regularity.

Valkyrie Arms is making new copies of the DeLisle

Josh-- I found those a while ago, unforunately, I better spend a few more summers up in your neck of the woods making good money before I justify that one to myself...

I am currently salivating over the idea of a single-shot .45-70. I've got a Remington M1867, but it was my great-grandfather's (thus I don't shoot it - heirloom) and the combination of age and the fact that it's actually not chambered in .45-70, but rather an old Danish cartridge with similar dimensions, make me less than enthusiastic to shoot it anyway - I don't like the idea of a .45-70 kaboom.

Anybody make an affordable single-shot besides H&R/NEF? The buttstocks on their single-shots ruin the entire gun - way too bulky.

stiletto, I believe you're thinking of Trigun - break-top revolver in .45LC. The Hellsing guns are .454 Casull, but they're autos.

A Drilling, all barrels 12 gauge in a 2 over 1 configuration. Pistol grip stock (I dislike straights), single trigger. Screw in chokes and a flip up rear ghost ring for precision buckshot placement. Oh, and 28 inch tubes.

More realistically, a Winchester Model 61. Best pump .22 ever, too bad Winchester going under has jacked up all of the prices through the roof.

Someday.
