When looking for a gun to buy - ever get swayed & think "gotta buy THIS b4 a ban!"

This is one of my favorite parts of gun restrictions, the market is saturated up to the 25th hour by gun manufacturers raking in profits on the "final" production of a model; subsequently proliferating shooting sports with the very guns they (politicians) seek to ban. That is freakin' awesome! The more people get used to seeing black rifles in shooting sports, the less they will be seen as bannable.

Hell yes, I buy guns based on impending restrictions!

I waited until the AWB had sunset before I bought my AR- I wanted all of the evil features that I deserved.

Before election time, I'll probably pick up a WASR or three, a few spare AR lowers, magazines, and spare parts while they are still cheap.

I'll be buying a Bushmaster AR-15 before the end of this year for that very reason. I'm also loading up on high capacity magazines. I hope that my concerns about the next election turn out to be nothing, but I don't want to take chances.

In general, my whole approach to buying guns is based on the upcoming elections. I'm deferring the purchase of "safe" guns like S&W revolvers and an Over/Under shotgun. Of course, no gun is truly safe. If Hillary & Co. manage to ban EBRs, they'll simply work their way down the list until we're all shooting arrows. :cuss:

I'd love to but being in college has sucked away all of my gun money and severly hurt my income.
If I could afford another FAL and an M-4 I would have them already.
As it is, I am selling/trading off what I don't need for .308 brass and to get money for ammo and spare parts for the guns I already have.
I am also planning to get a second 9mm handgun but I have to wait until the sword sells to afford that.

I have also put off getting what I really wanted to get what I thought would be unavailable later.
I am actually a wheelgun man at heart. I like bolt rifles, and semi-auto shotguns because of the recoil dampening effect of the gas system. I love 1911's, but I carry a Glock because it's lighter and doens't rust, and normally a J-frame because in FL you MUST conceal your carry gun.
Except for the SHTF scenario, I would only own 1 semi auto rifle, my M-1A.

During the dark years when America was oppressed by the socialist Clinton Regime, I was worried there may be civil war around the corner. At gunshows throughout FL, some 4 million rounds were sold after 1 of Reich Furher Clinton's anti-gun speaches, and our Governor at the time, the late Lawton Chiles, wanted to ban ANY WEAPON THAT FIRED MORE THAN ONCE WITHOUT HAVING TO COCK SOMETHING. In my estimation, that would include double barrels, DA revolvers, semi auto pistols/rifles/shotguns, all full auto, etc.
I asked my partner if he put aside any weapons cache for a SHTF scenario, and he surprised me with his answer. He claimed to be a retired SEAL, from the days they carried S&W Model 66's. He said that with his training, he could use his .357 to get any weapons or equipment he needed, if any.

When they won the '06 elections I bought a RRA Entry Tactical (got a screaming deal on it!), a couple dozen hi-caps and a couple thousand rounds of .223. Just traded for a Bushmaster Varminter, and figure I'll get a more socially unacceptable upper for it.

And I don't even like ARs:neener:

I figure they'll be worth a lot more and/or extremely difficult to get when my kids are old enough to buy their own. What a nice dad I am;)

I went shopping for a bannable high-capacity 9mm to go with the one I already have (an ancient, but well-tuned S&W 59) but I instead ended up buying a Colt Cobra at a really good price: $300. Always wanted a decent revolver.

What I wished I'd done (long ago) is bought 7.62 and 5.56 surplus when it was $100 a case, even though I didn't have any guns chambered in that caliber.

half the stuff in the safe is already on the list....i am not into ak's, but i did get one this summer, because.....i wish i did it earlier and got the $100 case ammo, well, i would have shot it all up any way...gpr

I think "buy it before it's banned" is mostly used by shady dealers who are trying to pressure uninformed people to buy something. I was at the Dulles, VA show a few weeks ago and some guy who was selling body armour had these signs that said body armour was about to be banned which is totally false.

Yup, I bought my 1st AR-15 just recently since it looks like were gonna have a gun-grabber in the White House this election. CMMG was also having a sale and I couldn't pass it up.

Eh, no reason to live your life in fear of bans. Buy what you like.

Besides, you can never assume a future ban will have a grandfather clause.

Of course! For the last 20 years, I have been doing so! I got out of the Air Force, and was going to get one rifle and one shotgun. The rifle was the M1-A, which I purchased, and the shotgun was going to be the Daewoo made USAS-12, a removable magazine made shotgun, similiar in appearance and operation, to an AR-15. Thing was, the USAS 12, never made it to the market, as the ATF decided it wasn't to be imported. Not much later, it was "our friend", the NRA life member George HW Bush, who ended the importation of several brands of semiautomatic rifles under dubious "standards" of bayonet lugs, pistol grips ect. I still remember the "mandate" to remove bayonets from unsold SKS's. The rest is history! I looked into getting a Striker, a South African made shotgun. It had a drum, but it wasn't easily reloaded, soon it was also banned from import. Then they imported the parts, and assembled them into a legal "Street Sweeper', BUT NOT LEGAL FOR LONG, AS IT WAS "RECLASSIFIED", and was soon off the market, as was the SPAS 12, and most tactical shotguns. I had had enough. I went out and bought a SKS Sporter, the SKS that takes AK mags. I soon had five SKS's and started buying the post ban stuff when it came out. I also made it a point to buy the imported military surplus since it had proven easier for a hostile president to use import restrictions to keep them out of the country. I finally got a chance to get a Saiga 12, my magazine fed shotgun, this year after 2 decades of government interference. I set goals, and have nearly ALL of what I set out to get, with the exception of a 50BMG rifle. I woud like nothing better than to get one, it's just not practical for me, and I bought more practical guns instead. I also suspect the UN is having some success in keeping surplus ammunition from being exported to the US, so lately, getting sufficient supplies of appropriate ammuntion has been a priority. I was alarmed, last month when suddenly, all the calibers I needed were suddenly available. Fortunately, it seems the supply is holding a bit, so the ammunition won't go away suddenly, while I am still trying to but it.

I'm not paranoid, the government and antigun organizations are trying to keep guns off the market.

so...you paranoids who buy 58 AR15's, why? Do you plan to sell them at a profit or can you shoot them all?

It seems to me that you'd buy one to have...then spend the rest of your money on ammo and reloading supplies. Then when you can't buy ammo, you can reload.

I'm not sure of the appeal of an AR15 anyway. They won't stop a tank. If you enjoy shooting one, cool. If you're hoarding a dozen of them, I just don't get it.

While I'm ranting, all this junk about Clinton and Hillary is mild compared to what Giuliani would do if he's prez. He's the one I fear because he's not smart enough to see which way the wind is blowing.

I did pick up some nice part kits and replacement parts before they barred the import of a bunch of parts back a few years ago, so I been quite lucky. I wish I had got in a couple of machine guns before they were locked down in the mid 80s, but wasn't in the States that long ago. Is it too much to ask for a progun president, since we haven't had one since Kennedy.

Personally if you're just a peaceful guy with a fixation for AR-15's, go ahead and buy a dozen. I also don't quite understand the idea of having a whole arms room full of stuff but I certainly wouldn't stop someone.
Having one for each family member, or one for yourself and a spare makes sense though. Never know when you might have one get damaged or confiscated for driving off some home invaders or something so having a back up is a good idea IMO.

Ideally, I'd like at least two of each of all my guns with some spare parts to go along. I don't think that makes me paranoid.
Don't believe me? Try finding parts for a FAL at one of my local gunshops. Then imagine if getting that part was actually more than just an inconvenience. What if the internet ceased to exist?
Planning ahead doesn't mean you are paranoid.

As Jorg said above "....you can never assume a future ban will have a grandfather clause."

Here in Chicago, they banned the sale and CONTINUED POSSESSION of "assault rifles" about a year ago.

Too bad if you went out and bought a bunch of AR15s after the Federal ban expired...you had to turn them in or risk breaking the law.

I don't buy anything that I think might be banned in the near future, for that reason.

I am feeling that I may need to make a couple of purchases before we get too far into 2009:

AR-type semi auto rifle (maybe one in .223 & one in .308)
AK-type semi auto rifle
The new HK45 compact pistol or a USP45 compact pistol

The rest of my weapon desires would likely fall outside of any ban (.45 revolver, precision bolt action hunting rifle, pump shotgun), so those go on the back burner for now.

I had many chances to buy great and low priced AK-type weapons before the last ban.....and was made to do without. I don't want that to happen again.

I will most likely make a purchase of something like an SKS before next year's presidential elections. Not because I "need" it, just want to get it while the gettin's good. Not paranoid, just practical.:)

My AR was a politically motivated purchase. I would rather have a bolt action rifle and don't particularly enjoy the hassle of cleaning an AR.

I use it to poke holes in paper and hunt deer (69 gr. to 77 gr. bullets).

I know several liberals who hate my AR. It's sort of confusing to me that someone would have so much disgust over just another tool. It's the person behind the tool that makes it dangerous.

These same liberals don't really like talking to me either. I'm somehow a terrible person just waiting to go on a mall rampage or something. It doesn't make any sense to me. I don't feel any different when I hold the thing. It's just a bunch of metal and plastic.

Why Yes!

SKS bought due to the ban on imports (before I knew better)

My second AR, because the reciever I bought was a post ban and I really wanted a collapsible stock. (got the stock and never installed, douuu!)

I am eyeing a buch of goodies just in case.

I swear, I wish they would stop futzing around so I can buy some more revolvers.

I wonder if any of these over-evolved liberals own a chainsaw. Probably not as they probably pay people to do that kind of "dirty work". But if they did, I guess perhaps that makes them a potential chainsaw killer.

Just having fun on a Sunday night. :neener:

P.s. ask me about my definition of "over-evolved".

I can honestly say that every one of my purchases have been and will continue to be politically motivated and influenced.
