Looking at bullet designs after trying in veign to get the hg68 to feed in my kimber commander. The hg130 has been mentioned as a better option and apparently noe makes a mold. Anyone using that mold and having good success? Screenshot_20211006-210314_Samsung Internet.jpg

The lyman 452460 is another option or the 452488 (130 clone). The 452460 uses a 1.160" OAL. The 452448 uses a 1.20" OAL.

You might try making up dummy rounds using the H&G68 and seating them to those OAL's Then do test runs seeing if they will feed/hand cycle.

Odd you couldn't get the 68 to feed, couldn't even begin to count how many 1911's I've owned over the decades. Every 1 of them ran 100% using the h&g 68's using the standard 1.250" OAL & a .468/.469" taper crimp

My 2¢ for what it is worth. The H&G #68 is the long nosed 200 gr semi-wadcutter, the H&G #130 is the short nosed 200 gr swc. I have a 1970's Colt GC that will feed either bullet without jamming using a 0.469" / 0.470" case crimp and OAL + 1.250". It will not feed 185 gr jacketed swc factory match bullets. I have a compact 45 acp Kimber with 3-1/2" (?) that feeds the long nosed bullets trouble free. Also, my other 1911 45 acp pistols shoot the long nose bullet without any problems. Not all will feed the short nose.

I have both 4-caviity Lyman molds. The short nose bullet has a flat base (200 gr), the long nosed Lyman mold has the top surface machined off to make the mold a flat base bullet (185 gr). I have the Lee 6-cavity H&G #68 clone that also had a bevel base. I carefully cut out the bevel base inside each cavity with a new utility knife blade, and burnished the ID at the base with a 0.452 pin gage to smooth the surface. Lee bullet weight is 215 gr.

If the hg68 is no bueno, I have heard a lot of good things about the Lee 230 grain tc molds.

Assuming it runs fine with something, one of the first things I do if a 1911 doesn’t want to feed a particular profile bullet, in a round that will “plunk” and pass a case gauge, is try another brand of magazine. Once they will feed and chamber an empty case bullet profile/seating depth doesn’t seem as important.

It’s not uncommon for one to function better with a particular brand, as they are slightly different. It only takes a minute and looks something like this.

I had one of their 230 molds that got damaged and it worked well. I have another mold that I believe is a 130 style if not I'll go back to the cones. 20200522_155625.jpg

I currently only have one mag and so far it's been trouble free. I may pick up a kimber 8 round as the factory mag was black and lost a year back or so. This is what I have. 16336115016552537954386418121035.jpg

Will it feed/chamber an empty case with your pistol from slide lock?

No that is the primary issue. I can breach load one and the rest will cycle. I ran seating depth tests from 1.267 till the bullet shank was flush with the case at 1.220 ish in 10ths steps.

Glad you have it sorted out.

I've run the cheap metalform 1911/45acp mags for decades without any issues using cramer #5, lyman 452460 &452488, H&G #68 and #130's along with several clones swc's. Along with hardball, 1r, 2r, along with a bunch of different jacketed hp's, home swaged bullets along with odd shaped cast bullets like these that use the short 1.180 oal.

I have yet to find a bullet that the metalform mags won't feed. Now the chip mccormick 10 round shooting star mags I use for blasting dirt clods @ 10 paces are a little more picky then the metalform mags.
