When will the single pocket sized 9mm fad die?

Simple answer is that it wont. Some fads come and go like 25acp, but there is nothing to push the 9mm aside in tiny autos except for the .380. 9mm is the most powerful round that has been put into such a small gun, and is leaps and bounds ahead of the .380 on everything except for the way recoil is handled. I feel like Glock is changing that this summer. This fad is here to stay.

I can fit a M&P9C in my pockets just fine. How do you have problems with the single stacks?

You know what fad I hate that just won't die? The 1911. I mean, it's an outdated archaic design, heavy, low capacity, single action like an old cowboy revolver and who shoots those anymore am I right? I mean, some people just need an engraved invitation to join the 21st century already.

I live in Michigan and I'm not a Yooper, so that makes me what?

Its not a fad--manufacturing just caught up to people's wants and desires

I wonder when the 22 LR fad will be over?

This fad has been dead for several years---notice how they don't even bother to stock the shelves with it anymore?:D Must be an obsolete cartridge

Not only does the O.P. have a lot of hate but he is a nosy busy body. What concern of his (and mine) what other folks carry?

But since he asked.

Kansas has a average of 12.2 days a year of 100+ degree temperatures. The record is 53 days in 2011. Also in 2011 we had 9 consecutive 100+ days. The average high temperature for June is 85, July 89 and August 88. When it is hot I am not wearing a lot of clothing. In fact open carry is often my chosen carry. My Seecamp LWS slips real nicely in the front pocket of a pair of shorts.

Kansas winters are brutal. The north wind often creates below zero wind chill factors. A gun buried under a coat and couple of layers of clothing isn't much use but a handgun slipped into the outer coat pocket is.

Second I have said often the a person should do a assessment of the type of crime in the community, how dangerous is their job such as taking large sums of money to the bank, what neighborhoods they travel in and live in, what type of businesses they go to, what their strategy is (stand and deliver or retreat whenever possible).

I hope the O.P. can find a socially acceptable manner to release his hate.

After watching the mess that was the Glock 43 release announcement live feed, I can only hope that this 'fad' continues because that was too funny!

I KNOW RIGHT!?!?

You know what else sucks and is clearly just a fad, revolvers........ Oh yeah, and polymer guns too!

All will be gone in a year or two. Oh, and don't even get me started on AR's.

5.....4.....3......

When will the single pocket sized 9mm fad die?

It'll die right after this current fad for smokeless gunpowder passes.

I mean, black powder has been perfectly fine for over a thousand years, and lasers and plasma cannons are just around the corner. Why waste your time with something that will shortly be an antique?

Climate.

I live in FL and standard dress code here is shorts, t-shirt, and flip flops :)

I can fit my Kahr PM9 into any of my cargo shorts pockets easily. When I wear something with less pocket space (golf shorts / jeans) I do IWB. Easy to conceal, doesn't drag your pants down and more snort than a smaller caliber, what's not to like?

LOL... I thought about posting something similar to this ^^. Didn't feel like chiming in on this thread, so thank you for putting it out there.

I hate these guns. They are not truly pocket-able and that means you have to carry them on your hip.
Are you delusional? Or do you wear skin-tight jeans with a 27" waist?
I have pocket carried my Kahr PM9, on and off, for about nine years now.
I wear 32" waist pants, and it fits in my pockets easily (jeans included).

I also own a Kahr P45, and have been known to pocket carry that too. Yes, in the same jeans front pocket. Its overall length is similar to a j-frame...which I also pocket carry from time to time...as do about a bazillion other people.

I would love to carry my 1911 every day, as I used to. Three back surgeries in eight years have made that mostly a thing of the past. I am very thankful that there are handguns like the PM9. It allows me to carry all day, every day.

Harumph!

I will carry my single stack nine with one in the chamber. You folks carry your 380's, .38 snubbies, mid-sized Glocks or whatever.

I have read it many times from those wise people that the best carry gun is......... one you have on you and not out in your car or truck.

Carry as often as possible and whatever works for you. In fact, carry one single stack nine and a 380.

This gun fits in a jeans pocket very easily. It only weighs 20 ounces loaded, which is less than a steel J frame and not much more than an aluminum frame J frame loaded.

Fads are cyclic right? Like paisley ties...

I hope the .32 ACP come back in vogue, I totally missed that fad and as a consequence I don't have a neato .32 to have fun at the range with.

It's more of a natural progression. You have it reversed. If these small guns existed 20-40 years ago, we would have been carrying them all along.
Unless you are a LE or Agent, most people have no need for a 2-3 lb handgun.
For the home and those occasions where you may feel it necessary, a compact with 15 rounds or full sized with 19-20, are still available, but seniors, woman, and long time shooters really don't require a full sized gun unless they are "in the business".

Fad???? You realize its just become recent that all states allow CCW???
Seems like we are just getting started.

"I hate these guns."

Don't buy one.

"They are not truly pocket-able and that means you have to carry them on your hip."

'They' are not all the same size, so this blanket statement is false for many single stack pocket 9s.

"Why on earth would you carry a gun on your hip that carries 3 to 5 rounds less than its double stack counter part,"

Because it's comfortable there. Because it's still easy to access. Because it may print less.

"that is hard to control and difficult to shoot?"

They are? Wow. I can, have, and do shoot my pocket 9 with one hand and two hands, and never once found it hard to control or difficult to shoot.
Recoil on most 9mm pistols is minimal, sights are generally adequate, so how is it hard to control? I flick off the safety on the draw, aim, and squeeze the trigger. Same as every other handgun I've ever held (save those who don't have an external safety to flick). I've not found it difficult on a pocket .32 or .25, or a full sized, double stack .45. What about the pocket 9mm makes it so difficult to use?

"I think it is just a fad that will eventually go away when everyone starts seeing that their "slim" 9mm is less than 1/16 inch slimmer than the double stack."

And I think you're wrong.

I think my next handgun will be a single stack 9. I love the one my wife has, and I think they're great. I've been packing a pocket 380. It's good for concealing anywhere, but I could stand to go up a size.

I think small yet powerful guns aren't a fad, they're the natural evolution of CCW. As another poster just mentioned, CCW being legal in every state (in theory) is a pretty recent occurrence. As the pendulum swings over to the pro-gun side and more people are starting to carry it stands to reason that guns would evolve to meet the market demand. Technologically new materials and production techniques allow gunmakers to build guns smaller and lighter than in the past while maybe being stronger and safer.

More people carrying guns also means it's no longer just "gun guys" but also new gun owners, soccer moms, urban dads, etc. Maybe Uncle Joe was fine with wearing his cocked-and-locked Colt Government under his shoot-me-first vest but that's not the norm anymore. A 95 lb woman is probably not going to put a three pound auto in her Hermes bag.

I do think that we're reaching the practical limit of just how small guns can get, a limit dictated by the anatomy of the human hand. For instance I don't think you could make a gun much smaller than an LCP and still have a gun that an average person could hold onto. Smaller would be getting into derringer territory.

I like fads . Heck, I would like to see more small single stack 9mm gas -delayed -blowback pistols similar to my P7. When I talked to H&K about it recently, the representative hinted that they have been getting a lot of requests and are considering a new designed "gas" gun but not like the P7.

I am going to go out on a limb and assume the OP thinks these things are probably passing fads too

Horseless carriage
rock & roll
flying machines

As far as single stack , pocketable 9mm? Owned a KT PF9 since 2007 when they first hit the market. 14oz pocket rocket the works well for me.:)
