I have a friend who is looking for a couple of Mosin Nagants. Suddenly it seems, the always available on the C&R market rifle has disappeared!:what: I checked AIM and J&G this morning and there were none to be had. Does anybody know of a vendor that has some for sale right now???!!! Thanks for any ideas...

Try cabelas. They seem to have cornered the Mosin market around these parts. Locally they have racks of nothing but Mosins... For a price. And that price is $259.00. They've been there for quite a while now.

i doubt prices on them will go up much with 7.62x54R surplus ammo pretty much drying up... frankly i think the cheap .308 equivalent that 7.62x54R used to be was what made them popular

Its pretty normal now for a decent, baseline, run of the mill Mosin to go for $200-$250. Once you get into unusual markings, antique receivers, Finn's, Dragoon's, etc, prices go up substantially. With the cost of non corrosive ammo coming down into the .35cent/round region (Cabela's), there's not much point in saving a couple bucks on surplus ammo.

That is not what made...makes...them popular. They are potent, reliable, rugged designs that still shoot quality ammo more cheaply than other similar rifles. I just got two spam cans of East German match ammo for less than $0.12 per round.

I believe Classic still has 91/30's and Finn 39's.

Widener's have m44's or did have a day or so ago. I thought Aim Surplus did too.

Gunbroker has pages of them albeit 99% are over priced.

I went through my MN stage and had a lot of fun deer hunting & plinking with them.

You're more than welcome to buy one sight unseen (save for pictures that don't really justify the prices) with mismatched numbers, unsightly furniture and unknown working order for about $250. Then you get to pay $40 for shipping and then another $25 to $50 on a transfer if you don't have C&R.

It turns into a rather costly venture. I'd wait for a local or regional gunshow and poke around.

They have gone the way of the Mauser, up in price and down on availability. 60$ all matching M-44's run an EASY 250$ and the price is only climbing. An old mismatched German Mauser is an easy 250$

M-39's that sold for 79$ are now in the 400's, and as collectors and enthusiasts grab up the last of them, dont expect prices to go down.

8mm is way harder to get than 7.62x54r, but that will only effect the shooters for a bit, as non corrosive 'sporting' ammo is easily available now for their Mosins.

There were once a few million Mauser's, there were once a few million Mosins, but evidently whats been imported here is not gonna increase anytime soon, for either rifle and most all other surplus rifles.....once the worlds army's shifted to assault rifles, they stopped making them bolts and semi's, for the most part.

Sadly, for milsurp rifles, I wouldnt count on anymore "Napal castle finds" comming to market soon, either...

Look and see if you have any sort of Facebook group local to you or your state. There are several that cover my area and they are quite active. Mosins are in the list all the time, as well as all manner of other stuff. Obviously the usual insanity that surrounds pricing is present but bargains can be had and in my case anyway nearly all transactions are face to face so you see what you're getting before you buy it.

Mind you I live in a state where I can buy or sell face to face no FFL required.

found Russian Nagent rifles

Try 111 gun shop in Louisville,Ky. They have them, call for price at 502-873-4867. they had them in crates on display. good luck:)

--------------------------------------------------------------

Into the collections of us who started collecting them years ago.

Cabela's still has them, Fleet Farm around here still has them, but they aren't the $59.99 I paid for some of mine.

Ammo isn't that hard to find yet, though it too is going up in price....glad I stacked it cheap years ago, and reload for it, too.

Try ArmsList.com

They pop up once in awhile from folks who eventually liquidate for one reason or another. Seen a collection listed in my state ranging from 100 to 600 bucks per.

I was one of the very early birds. My matching Finnish Westinghouse M91 (in Westinghouse stock) set me back $50. My M91/59 $40. My Tikka M91/30 was another $50. I had a gaggle of M39's for $70 each, 1920's Tikka M91s for $60 each, etc. At my highest, I had 70 Mosins (plus a sweet NDM-86 Dragunov, Webley Mk VI in .455 Webley, PSL-54C, low serial number Federal Ordnance M14 (USGI parts, mostly H&R). Sold most of it off and bought a house and 4 acres.

I was very happy. Now I have 5 Mosins (the Tikka M91/30, Westinghouse M91, M91/59, Finnish M28/76 and Czech VZ54/91). Still happy with them. Saw an M91/30 refurb for $150 today at a gun shop.

After reading this thread I feel very fortunate to also be an early worm. I bought my Mosin Nagant on a whim from a Big 5 Sporting Goods store. It is a very run of the mill Mosin Nagant but in good shape. At gun shows around here when they appear you cannot seem to fin one below $200 and those look like they were dragged behind a horse drawn cart from Moscow to Leningrad.

There is also a guy around here who sporterizes them as well. He re-welds the bolt handle and drops the action into a synthetic stock.

I hope your friends finds a nice one at a competitive price.

That made sense when they were $50. Now with new production hunting rifles available for under $300, sporterizing no longer makes any monetary sense. Though, something about a Finn M39 wearing a small Leupold VX3 does sound appealing...

I bought mine on a whim for 99$ from Cabela's, a nice 1927 "hex", which is BS, because there are three flat cuts on the upper (visual part ) of the receiver and under the flat cuts is round. Not a 'hex' at all, but a tri-cut....have you taken your 'hex' ALL THE WAY apart????

They just don't come in anymore and when they do are for $200 bucks now or more. I don't even shoot mine. Twice in two years, but I'm glad I bought it. Thank the donkeys for the Mosins drying up. You should be buying everything gun made in Russia and China.

If you want one, search and expect to pay more than most did, but it's your only chance. A fun rifle to be sure, with history. They made millions, but you need to act fast.

Many bores are counter bored, try not to get one of those.

Tom

THey ve been around since for about 15 yrs. But once the relations with the Russians are getting sour by the day, the good times are fading away...
