Where do you guys buy your handgun brass? I found what i think is a decent deal on Monmouth and a couple Facebook brass pages. the Facebook pages use PayPal and are sold from a independent person prices as low as $25-1k for 9mm range pickups. Monmouth wants $34-1k shipped for the same.

anyone else have any places they get better deals?

Best deals are free range pickup and what most people do if they can. Other than that $25per 1,000 for range pickup and $34 per K of cleaned shipped 9mm brass is on par with the going price. Armslist usually has brass listed for sale.

If you are able to pick up brass at your range then by all means do so. Especially your own brass. I have one range in the area that won't allow you to pick up your own. They also sell reloaded ammo bought from another company but you can't bring your own reloads. Needless to say I'm glad I have options.

Facebook, and the CastBoolits forum. 9mm brass is frequently available for slightly more than scrap brass value, ~$3/lb if memory serves.

I'm a member of a private gun/hunt club and the buckets are always empty. the retired guys spend 6-8hrs a day up there and empty the buckets and go home and pick through them. I pick my own stuff up and also dig through the buckets when there is something in them but that's far and few between.

BTW how many are you looking to acquire? What area of OHIO are you in?
I'm in NE Ohio just outside Cleveland and looking for about 1K once fired. ive scrounged all summer at the club and got about 1k now but i take 200 with me and come home with 150.

Paying for range pickup brass in common calibers has always puzzled me. Folks seriously cannot find 9mm or .40 or .45ACP or .38 special brass lying around where they shoot? I guess some people never shoot off their own property or something. But in that case, why wouldn't they just buy new, given that they're not going to lose much of it?

Nope, because everyone else at the range I shoot at is doing the same thing, picking up brass. Mad scramble!

Maybe I'm spoiled shooting among the city-slickers... reloaders are a small minority of the shooting population. And even among, say, USPSA shooters (of whom at least half reload) we all have as much 9mm and .40 and such as we want anyway.

I just ordered from http://rangebrass.us, 1500-223 for 55 and some change, shipping included. However they have bulk deals for handgun also. Going for some 45 and 40 the next time. I know you said handgun, but in the order I got, I found about 5 of different calibers and 2 or 3 unusable cases. I used another vendor, local, but found rangbrass about 6 to 10 dollars cheaper. I have no problems with cleaning my own, almost prefer it that way.

my range is outdoors and we shoot in mulch or grass so finding every last piece is impossible. every morning one of the officers for my club goes and empties the buckets and they pick through what they want and leave all the buckets empty. I've been there a year and shoot weekly and only found about 800-1k 9mm and that was shortly after a ccw class and idpa match. since then the buckets are dry. I think they have started recycling it because they tell us how much money we raised in scrap.

range brass is much, much cheaper than new brass. its almost $100 for 500 new cases and $35-1k for once fired.

Offer to pay them scrap prices or slightly above for the 9mm brass. I never understood why quality range would scrap perfectly good brass for the little bit of money it brings.

Interesting statement which I can relate to. For a time when everything was in short supply finding range pick ups and even picking up your own or others at matches was hard to do. Most IDPA and/or USPSA matches are lost brass so the people that hang around after the props are removed can pick up the brass. But it is usually an awkward situation for some reason.

I belong to a club that hosts many matches and we have a few dedicated outdoor match only ranges that are closed to the general membership. Most of theses ranges (5 of them) are only about 2 years old and located off the beaten path. The ground is covered with fairly large pieces of rock to keep shooters from sinking in the mud. This makes using one of those bird cage brass pick up tools useless. So no-one it appears wants to pick up the brass by hand. The brass sits there on the ground waiting for me to get it, I have worked 4 of those ranges and have picked up about 5000 pcs total, mostly 9mm but some 40 s&w and 45 acp. I think if I went back I could find at least another 3000 pcs. maybe more.

For me it's hard to walk away from free brass but I have to say that picking it up one piece at a time has me thinking about buying my brass from a reseller. If I could find a reliable low cost solution to brass I would just leave it on the ground for someone else to pick up. I can buy 1000 pcs unclean range 9mm for $30.00 locally and have purchased a lot from this guy. So that's 3 cents/case not too bad.

One of the nice things about shooting a revolver with moon clips is you get your brass back. Even using a revolver with speed loaders usually gets your brass back even at a lost brass match because the brass is in a pile next to the speed loader, easy and fast to pick up.

they charge you even if your a member to do these shoots and its generally a bunch of I was a commando in another life guys who shoot the matches so I stay away. at the end of it everyone is made to pick up brass cause the mower will eat it and it goes in the buckets. the matches end at 8pm and I have went there at 7am before work just to scrounge and the buckets are empty or only steel case stuff left. its more a dictatorship there if your low man on the pole you don't get the stuff hidden in the barn in bags or buckets but hey its $60 a year to shoot and fish. sometimes i find a lot of cases but most the time none.

I buy just about all of my brass from our reloading forum here. Always a good selection for good prices. Just got 1k from wankerjake there for $22 per 1k

how do you guys usually pay? paypal, money order? never messed with paypal so looking for advice. id rather help a small time guy or business buying from them than a large corp.

I've bought brass from several members of different forums and was happy each time. One time the seller wanted a USPS money order and the other times I paid through PayPal.

Around here there are private gun clubs everywhere. Turn over a rock, bang, you found a gun club. I really don't know how the commercial ranges stay in business. Anyway, there are clubs and then there are Gun Clubs. Out of the literally dozens of clubs within a reasonable drive for me there are 5 maybe 6 that are highly organized and competition friendly. I could shoot an 2 or 3 IDPA or USPSA or Steel Challenge matches every week most of the year. I could if I wanted to shoot in my yard. However for a number of reasons I make the 24 mile drive each way to club I shoot the most at, one of several that I belong to.

I could see where you might think that action pistol shooting sports is somewhat like commando style but it's not that way at all in my opinion. Not saying that there aren't some yahoos but it is a great way to get out for an afternoon and so some shooting. It is the reason why I need a lot of ammo!

We get the guy who shows up in a homemade raid vest with army bdu pants and combat boots bloused or the guy with a full duty belt and security uniform on or the guy that wears a different branch veteran hat every other week and he's an instructor or the guy who tells you shoot Israel style cause it's the best. They just scare me a little bit and I know by shooting alone or with good friends I'm safe. I have a gate code and can shoot whenever I please. I sometimes do drills and have some fun.
