X-Rap made the suggestion in the Roller Coaster thread that he would list roller coasters on the list of 10 places he wouldn't want to carry, and that it would be an interesting thread asking where those places are.

Places where it is illegal to carry, or where carry is "prohibited" and enforced through tresspassing laws are not in the scope of this list. So planes, federal property, that stupid bank or theatre, etc.

Here's mine:

1) Swimming. No place for a holster in my swim gear, and its not good for the gun. Also included here is hot tub, shower, etc.
2) Martial Arts training. Not so much worried about the gun getting dislodged and causing a ND here, but rather about having the holster pounded into my hip.
3) Trampoline. I'm great at doing flips. I don't think my gun is, especially in a kydex rig. If I had a retention holster, I'd consider it.
4) Vibration Exercise equipment. I am fine doing weights, biking, or cardio machines with my carry rig on, but I do not trust that the vibrations from this particular type of equipment would not cause an AD.
5) Bed. Not that I would have a holster on, but I just don't trust my sleepy self to not grasp that thing and accidentally cause it to go off. I am not a gun-under-the-pillow type of person.

That's all I got, so I'm half-way to a top ten list. What's on your list?

1) Swimming. No place for a holster in my swim gear, and its not good for the gun. Also included here is hot tub, shower, etc. When I had a Glock 26, I carried in the pool/hot tub/etc and kept my pistol on the shelf in the shower - armed as often as reasonably possible. Even now, my S&W Chief's Special sits on the toilet lid while I shower
2) Martial Arts training. Not so much worried about the gun getting dislodged and causing a ND here, but rather about having the holster pounded into my hip. Train how you fight - You're more likely to freeze up when introducing unexpected elements into your OODA loop in a self defense scenario (ie, someone approaches you and gets aggressive, you go into the martial arts response mode, and are off balance because you don't normally have the gun on when training, or other worse things could happen) - Bottom line, train how you fight.
3) Trampoline. I'm great at doing flips. I don't think my gun is, especially in a kydex rig. If I had a retention holster, I'd consider it. Can't argue too much here, but then I carry in a holster that holds my gun no matter what orientation I'm in (sideways, upright OR upside down), and I'm too old to be messing around on a trampoline with flips and such - I'd break a hip
4) Vibration Exercise equipment. I am fine doing weights, biking, or cardio machines with my carry rig on, but I do not trust that the vibrations from this particular type of equipment would not cause an AD.o.0 is this REALLY a consideration? I thought they stopped making this stuff in the early 80's
5) Bed. Not that I would have a holster on, but I just don't trust my sleepy self to not grasp that thing and accidentally cause it to go off. I am not a gun-under-the-pillow type of person.I've slept with either a 1911 or a revolver under my pillow for as long as I can remember. When I'm inebriated or in a strange place, I put it on the nightstand.

I carry EVERYWHERE that I can. The only time I don't generally carry is from bed to the toilet in the morning, and since my bathroom is off my bedroom, it's a short trip.

As the guy who did the roller coaster thing...

One place I ABSOLUTELY disarm is when I'm horsing around with grandkids. Wrestling around on the ground in the mud with a thug is one thing, but when I'm down on the floor with playful kids crawling all over me, I will not be armed. Believe it or not, though, one poster here on The High Road once criticized me for that decision! Go figure.

I would not want to carry concealed at a nudist camp.....besides the draw would be awkward!!

Motorbike or horse. Sometimes you gotta man up though sometimes. never know though

Probably in a junkyard with one of those powerful electromagnets hovering around or something like that.

Bout the only place I don't carry a firearm are places where my gun would get trashed, I'm drinking, or I'm not on my feet, and the gun could cause me harm (like a trampoline).

I work at a bar, and don't enjoy being there on my only day off very often. We go to the beach occasionally, and go sledding in the winter, so it gets locked in the car. And I just set it off to the side while I jump on trampolines.

Shower
Swimming
Health Club
Rodeo
Moto Cross
Grand Kids
River Float Trip
Amorous Behavior
Race Car
Roller Coaster
Yep I did find 10 places or activities, many of them would have a gun within reach though.

Rail, how did you carry in swimwear? What did you do to clean the Glock afterward? I'd think chlorine would be bad for the gun. Also, did you have a plan to use the gun should it be needed, or would you have just fired with water in the barrel?
Oh, and how would other polymer pistols, i.e. M&P, XD, FNS hold up in that situation?

On the trampoline, now I think about it, I also wouldn't want the gun harming the trampoline or myself as I bounce around. I don't always land on my feet (often on purpose), so that would be a big consideration for me.

My Dad just bought a vibration thing last year, they seem to be making a resurgence. This isn't one of those belts, it's a pad you stand on, and keeping positions actually works your muscles. Pretty cool, but I don't like the idea of jarring around the pistol that much.

ETA: I should have added "on a boat" because everyone seems to lose their guns in boating accidents.

Personally, I do not understand this. Are you concerned that your gun will come out of it's holster? If so, it might me prudent to get a better holster.
I'm with my three grandchildren 6 or 7 days a week, and I carry all of the time. I have no fear that my firearms will pop out of their holsters or that my folders will jump out of their sheaths/pockets.

swimming is the only time i might choose to not carry. if it were legal, there is NO place i would EVER willingly disarm myself.

Schools, post offices, courthouses, city hall, federal buildings...

You know, the usual places that forbid firearms, even when you have a license.

A visit to the doctor that would require you to disrobe and leave the room that you donned the robe in might be a place I wouldn't carry as well unless I could keep it in a fanny pack or some other such bag in which I could at least keep an eye on it.
XRay MRI are both procedures that I doubt you could even keep a bag in your hand.

I used to work in as a bouncer and a pistol is not very practical in a crowded bar or club environment where people are often shoulder to shoulder. I was in very close contact with a lot of drunks. I seldom needed to actually defend myself but I had to wrestle people apart and physically escort them out the door on a regular basis. I kept half a pool cue handy at all times in case I had to deal with a knife but my pistol stayed hidden behind the bar. I only put it on after closing in case we got robbed because closed bars are prime targets. Would be robbers know there is a lot of cash on hand and just a few employees left cleaning up. I also carried my pistol to escort the employees to their cars as robbers might think they were carrying the bank deposit bag.

I would not want to open carry in New Jersey (or several other states), I don't feel like spending 5 or 10 years in the slammer for doing something that is perfectly legal and normal here in Kentucky.

MRI
Anything with any kind of anesthetic, such as wisdom tooth removal (could theoretically carry for that)
Anything that requires taking clothing off and then not being right by it at all times.
Swimming or otherwise entering water
Weight training
Consuming any alcohol
On a college campus (where legal) while giving a presentation on a gun related topic

One place that you might really want one, is the worst place for one - prison yard. Trust me on that one. :) Of course, 99.99% of the people posting here will never see a prison yard.
I can see why you would want to disarm specifically while "horsing around" with very young/young children on the living room floor - little hands can get in many places without meaning to. Refer to the recent "shot while hugging from the rear" tragedy. As soon as everyone is disengaged and upright, then I can see Grandpa being armed to protect his little angels. I won't live long enough to see grandkids, but I certainly applaud all grandpas who do carry to defend them.
In the doctors office? They leave while I get ugly naked, and the gun is in my clothes on the chair. They don't touch my personal effects, and I don't file charges for attempted theft - it's a great agreement.
I don't swim, not a problem there.
Coop45, I agree - nudist camp would be a bad place to try - BUT I HAVE SEEN THAT TYPE OF CARRY DONE. Famous x-ray of an inmate who pinged on the BOSS chair at a unit I worked at - NAA mini revolver in the old "prison wallet". Seriously. I have no idea how long it too be be "drawn"...don't wanna know, donna wanna mess with the Keister Bunny...:what:
I tend to agree, I don't go places I can't be armed, and if I have to, then I try to make arrangements.

I won't carry to a neighboring state that is nearby to which I do not have a conceal carry permit. I can carry open there, but I figure it is not worth the hassle if only one person complains and the police come, forget that.

for BOBOYER

If you say you have no problem carrying arround grandkids, please clarify: Do you mean AROUND grandkids, or do you mean when you're down on the floor with kids crawling all over you, like you're playing horsey?

I carry AROUND grandkids all the time. But when I get down and play with lots of unrestrained physical contact with kids ranging in age from 4 to 8, I will not have a gun on me.

I once had to give a grandson a hard slap when I told him not to put his hand in my pocket, and then I felt him trying to carefully put his hand in the pocket to see if he could get away with it. I didn't want to do it, but that 4-year-old had to learn that NO is NO.

I should have been more clear.
I take care of the kids 10-12 hours/day, every day. So that involves everything one would normally encounter when raising kids. Two are highly energetic little boys that are very, very active/playful/curious. One of their favorite things to do is wrestle with Gramps on his bed.

I carry the same way (95% of the time) every day, I see no need to disarm to play with them, or feed them, or bathe them, take them to the park, the mall or back to mom & dad. I really see no need.

Same guns, same place every time, simple.

FYI, I normally carry on the hip and ankle. Only issue we've had is a few bumps on the noggin, but they learn quickly where not to headbutt Gramps!

Carrying in the shower isnt necessary at all. I understand that you may encounter someone wanting to break into your home while you are in the shower but the odds of this happening at this exact time are unbelievably small. IMO its on the side of paranoid and that kind of carry isnt the best kind of carry.

Carrying while wrestling with your grand children is way different than carrying while with your grand children. IMO you should disarm yourself while horseplaying with them. If you feel the need to be armed while doing this then once again refer to the paranoid comment. If you are wrestling with your grand children in a place that you would need to be armed then get outta there NOW!!!
