Where would you NOT want to carry?

I mean, who carries in the shower?

Haven't you seen the pic of the guy holding a rifle while eating a cookie in the shower?

My gun would be in my clothes while I'm in the shower, so if someone breaks in I will have quick access.

This is where some sort of early warning system would be handy. A clever criminal might wait for that light to come on in the frosted bathroom window, and hear the shower water running, then come in. A clever and gutsy criminal, yes, except a clever criminal might have noticed he was probably stepping in dog poop while sneaking around my back yard, (I know, I know, I'll clean it up, eventually), and a clever criminal might put two and two together - BIG poop piles might mean big dog inside, and big dogs can do unkind things to clever criminals. It also means he needs to clean his shoes.:neener:
Juts a casual observation - if you worry about a shower time attack, you can do one of two things; stink, badly, or layer your warning systems to give you time.

I want the Laws changed so I can carry from the White House to the Outhouse with no restrictions, If Secret Service, FBI and US Marshalls have almost this much authority any of us cleared by the State and Federal Government should have the same option wither or not we exercise it.

Rail, how did you carry in swimwear? What did you do to clean the Glock afterward? I'd think chlorine would be bad for the gun. Also, did you have a plan to use the gun should it be needed, or would you have just fired with water in the barrel?
Oh, and how would other polymer pistols, i.e. M&P, XD, FNS hold up in that situation?

I buy swim trunks with an internal tie and a large zipper pocket, or trunks with zipper side pockets and just stick it in the pocket. As far as cleaning it afterwards, I just disassemble and toss it in the dishwasher by itself - no harm, no foul(ing).

Glocks can safely be fired even completely underwater (and I strongly suspect many other types of handguns can as well). The only reason I don't carry my S&W in the pool or ocean is because it does have some collectors value and I'm into it for more than twice the value of a new Glock. Honestly, I'd be willing to bet that most other pistols would be fine in that situation.

I had a Rock Island compact 1911 awhile back that I was carrying while working and I fell into a deep mud puddle - after rinsing the muck out of the pistol and magazine with a hose, I finished the workday and then cleaned it at home fully - Even the 1911 was no worse for wear, and I suspect that if it wasn't so dagum heavy, it'd be an easier to conceal option than the G26 in swim trunks.

I think people really baby their pistols too much. I can understand keeping it clean, and not abusing it - I take proper care of all my tools, but you don't see me spending 300% more for special oils and protectants for the outside of the engine in my car, and you certainly won't see me hosing down the bottom after I drive to the store and back.

That's interesting, rail driver, but I wouldn't want to shoot my firearm when it's been in the pool without at least seeing someone else do the same with the same model (well, close enough, i.e. if I have a S&W M&P compact, seeing someone do it with a full of the same caliber would work for me) or testing it myth-busters style...i.e. with a string around the trigger from 10 feet away.

[snip]

Carrying while wrestling with your grand children is way different than carrying while with your grand children. IMO you should disarm yourself while horseplaying with them. [snip]

Why?
Do you folks have holsters that are so cheaply made that you fear that your pistol will fall out, or is there some other reason.

Perhaps you can supply us with links to articles where this actually happened, not ust as a fantasy in someone's mind

RE: Shower carry. When I lived in an apartment I often took my holstered pistol with me into the bathroom and set it on the counter.

Living in an apartment can severely limit your ability to take the other precautions. I always felt that a sudden/forcible entry was far more likely there than in my house. You don't control the locks that are on the doors, hardware that is installed, the door/doorframe used, the exterior lighting, couldn't have a big dog or dogs like at the house, etc.

There are things you can do, door wedges, portable alarms, and yap yap dogs can be annoying, but they can make noise when you need it.

Yes. I have a portable wedge-alarm for anytime we stay at a hotel/motel/rented house/etc.
