I'm looking at getting into suppressors and from what I've been advised, the 22 suppressor is the place to start.

Which 10/22 would you suggest would go well with a suppressor?

A plain cheap as you can get model and then buld it how you want. The build is super easy, parts are easy to find and you end up with exactly what you want.

yeah, get the 77/22 or even better something like the marlin papoose take down.

oh wait, ruger makes a 10/22 takedown model now right?

yeah, get the 77/22
77/22's have really suffered from Rugers lack of quality control lately. They used to be my favorite 22lr bolt gun.

Now, my favorite bolt 22lr is this:

Way better stock.
Accutrigger has better pull and probably less reliable, but can be replaced with aftermarket for best results.
Way better base/ring options with 20moa rail.
5rnd mag feeds good, but obviously the rotary mag is legendary and tough to beat.
More accurate out of the box than the 77/22's.

I used to be the 77/22's biggest fan... and I generally dislike savage. However, they do these little rimfires right.

I would (and did) just convert a regular 10/22 over to what you want instead of trying to find a ready-made suppressor friendly option. Pretty much all of the 10/22 barrel makers (Tac Sol, Whistlepig, PWS, Green Mountain... so on and so forth) offer threaded 10/22 barrels of widely varying lengths and materials. Alternatively, you can also ship a stock barrel to JP grips and machine, and have them cut it down and thread it for ~$60. or for ~$130 you can get the barrel threaded and your front sight moved back.

I use my suppressor on both a 10/22 (w/ PWS T3 barrel) and a CZ455, and while the bolt gun is quieter overall, the 10/22 is still plenty quiet. A good polymer buffer goes a long way towards eliminating some fo the 10/22 bolt clatter noise.

I added a nice Boyd stock and a Tactical Solutions threaded barrel to my 10/22. I got a Huntertown Arms Guardian SS for $299. I live in Houston, but bought it out of a place north of San Antonio, I see you are in Austin. PM me your email address for pics and/or a video.

I"m a minority here, but I was actually not all that impressed with suppressed 22's. I took my mk2 and my 10/22 out to compare with my buddy's mk2 and 10/22 that were threaded for his SWR can. We took remington subsonics and federal bulk ammo. Out of the pistol barrels both rounds stayed subsonic. The suppressed pistol sounded a lot like a small finish nail gun. I was able to shoot without ears, but if I was going to shoot more than a few I would probably put ears on anyway. (I'm sensitive to loud noises. I wear ear plugs to movies these days)

Out of the suppressed rifle the federal bulk stuff was going supersonic and was loud enough I wanted my ears, though I could have fired a few rounds without hurting. The subsonics were a little quieter than out of the suppressed pistol, but nowhere near silent.

So since I was not going to spring for subsonic ammo and as a result would be wearing ears anyway, I decided to pass on a 22 suppressor. That said, it was still a lot quieter than unsuppressed and was way cool. Now a 223 or 308 can, that's a whole different story altogether. They bring the volume from almost unbearable down to sounding like an unsuppressed 22.

Your experience sounds as if he had an older SWR can.

Take care to never make decisions based on a small sample size. I have several 22lr suppressors that I would describe as "mouse fart" quiet with cci subs.

If you want truly ultimate quiet, then CCI Quiet ammo through a quality suppressor is very difficult to beat.
