I realize this subject has probably come up before, but I couldn't find any old threads. Basically what I'm looking for is The most accurate and reliable 1911(if they go hand in hand) for under $1100. I want a 5" barrel, adjustable sights, single stack, and must be in .45acp. This will mainly be a range gun.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

For right at the $1000 mark... Colt XSE.

Under that figure: Springfield Armory Loaded

Even lower? The rest of the Springfield lineup.

I'm not going to go through the WHOLE 'why a Colt?' thing... If you don't already know, you need to research more. In short: they're better built weapons, use better parts in general, are 100% USA made, are the original 1911 and they're an actual investment, yadda yadda yadda.

Springfield is an EASY second choice. Kimber a distant third (many MIM parts and some sketchy quality history at times).

Contact Manofsteele he is a dealer who posts here and has been getting and selling PM7s for $1050 shipped to your FFL.

are we talking new or used?

New:
STI Trojan for Accuracy
Springfield Loaded for dependability
2009 Dan Wessons, 2010 Dan Wesson CBOB is in that price range still
Colt Combat Elite
Smith & Wesson M1911 Pro

Used:
Dan Wesson's
Fusion's
STI Trojan
Springfield TRP
Boarderline for a Les Baer
STI Duty one just sold for 1k on GlockTalk the other day
Springfield Trophy Match

Everyone of those are fantastic, amazingly made guns in that price range. Im sure there are plenty more, those are just what i have owned or shot and are simply my opinion.

I recently got my first STI. A 6" Trojan. It is the most accurate 1911 i have ever owned so far. No joke, no kidding. I paid $725 used for it and it has been well used but im getting dime sized groups off hand at 7 yards using factory loaded walmart ammo.

Ive always been impressed with the Dan Wesson's and i have 3 of them right now, but im even more impressed with the STI's now. Im looking to expand my collection of those at the moment :)

Where are you located? If in or near San Antonio, i'll pull out my 1911's and you can take em' for a test drive.

CBOB is not a range gun. They are almost impossible to get a hold of. They are not producing many and they are all shipping to CA IIRC.

Odd, I use mine at the range all the time, and it does a hell of a job.

And you are incorrect in thinking that they are shipping all 200 in 2010 to CA only. According to the DW forum. People in all states are poping up with them. They are difficult to get ahold of the 2010 model right now though, i'll give you that.

Ozark Guns in North Carolina has (2) 2010 Dan wesson Cbob's

Just giving examples. us DW fans thought that the 200 CBOB's for 2010 were going to be CA only, but infact they went all over the place

OP asked for adjustable sights. Last time I checked the CBOB did not fit that description. :neener:

Trust me, if i found a 2010 cbob for $1100, adjustable sights are the least of my worries LOL

Thinking about it, 5 of my 11 1911's right now have adjustable sights, but i haven't touched them. They have been perfect out of the factory.

I would go with the STI Trojan.

I'd get it from either Brazos or Dawson and have them do their "Performance Package" (that's what Brazos calls it, don't know Dawson's term) on it. In the odd chance it left the factory with something wrong they will catch it and either fix it or have STI fix it.

Thanks a bunch guys! I was leaning towards the Trojan too, but of course there are aren't any dealers in Wisconsin. Not to mention every guns shop I talked to pretty much avoided the subject of STI.
I think I've narrowed it down to the Trojan or the Loaded...just wish I could find a dealer in our state that had either in stock to look at. oh well

sti spartan all the way, i love mine and it is crazy accurate, i love it because it is plain as can be from the factory but it is such a good platform to learn about messing with finish and fitting aftermarket parts on. at 600 bucks im not gonna cry if my duracoat application went way wrong... just sand it off and try again, plus it has been functioning flawlessly for the 500 or so rounds i have put through it

ps im thinking about doing the home bob tail kit for it, why the heck not, right?

Besides the PM7, you could get a Combat Elite and have a BoMar style rear installed (I don't think you'd have to change the front, but if so it's a small detail). You'd be just under $1100. Or an S&W 108299 (blued model; it's also in ss but I don't recall model number).

All of those are similar quality pistols at a similar price point, and nearly identically configured.

I'd get one from "ManofSteele" He's a standup guy and will not do you wrong. I've seen him around the 1911forum/DW and he's very well respected there.

I had a "loaded" Springfield, and even after I had a macth bushing fitted, it wasn't accurate enough for me.

I'd have to say that my Trojan is really close in accuracy to my Baer, or Wilson.

Where in WI are you?

I'm an hour north of Milwaukee.

I'm pretty positive I will be ordering a Trojan from Dawson tomorrow and get it shipped to Cabela's. I was really considering a S&W, but they are pretty close in price. I might as well go with the semi-custom. Plus I have not heard one bad thing about STI so....tomorrow I will be $1000 poorer
