My BPI slug loading manual lists a number of .410 loads that use a single 000 or 0000 buckshot pellet as a slug. I'm thinking that such loads could make for great, cheap, plinking fun at reasonable distances on targets that aren't too tiny.

At first glance, the Rossi Ranch hand in .410 seems to fill the bill, but I would be concerned that the modified choke wouldn't be that great with single projectile loads.

Another idea is the Baikal combo gun that comes in .22 LR/.410 or .22 WMR/.410. The unique thing about that gun is that it is threaded for choke tubes.

As much as I like .410 shotguns (my favorite), there ain't a thing cheap about shooting them. Cheaper to shoot a 12 or 20 gauge.

Unless you handload. Once you have the gear, you're looking at pennies a round for .410.

You are correct. I hadn't thought of that......I am only set-up for a few pistol and rifle calibers. I need to start rolling my own shells too.

It can be a bit pricey to get set up for shotshell reloading. I have the Lee press in 12 gauge which is cheap, but leaves much to be desired. I really want to upgrade to a MEC if I can figure out how to stop being bad at money.

The unfortunate thing about reloading the .410 is that I'm pretty sure it requires a dedicated press. To change between 12, 20, and 16, you just need to swap some parts.
