Man that is a tough question. The WW1 replica is a great looking pistol and is no longer produced (it was a limited run and is replaced with the 01918 another limited run WW1 repo). The thing is I would not want to risk finish wear so if I owned it it would spend most of it's life in my safe.
The Series 70 Repo is also a beautiful pistol that I would be more likely to shoot and carry, that would be a good choice.
The 1991 series is also a great pistol and is cheaper than the others. I have a few 1991s and they all have been flawless.
I reckon that is not much help.
What is going to be the primary role of the pistol?
I agree with Hunter on the `91 series. I have one also and its a great shooter and reliable. One you can have years from now and still have fun with without worrying about making a safe queen.
I would go with an original Series 70, if I could find one. I've had Pre 70, Series 70, and Series 80. Of the three, I've had some really nice ones of the Series 70 type. Function fine, and really good fit and finish. Nothing wrong with the Series 80, but I can live without the additional firing pin safety. The modern 1911 repos are hard to come by and might even be considered collectibles instead of shooters.
