I have some guns that I really like, and there are some that I would really like to have.

The ones I would like but will most likely do without are:

Winchester 21 Trap
Registered Magnum
Dakota Model 10 Mannlicher

I did, however, get a Remington 31 riot with significant finish wear to the stock for a very modest price and I am very pleased.

I would never even consider buying the Taurus Judge, actually, I would never consider buying a Taurus.

That's just me.

FDF,
I think he means guns you would love to have, but have resigned yourself to never owning. You know, like the 45ACP Luger.

A quality double.

Would love to have one, had too many disappointments in the budget guns and want quality first. I have decided I can justify the expense of a quaity semi or pump, but not what it would cost for a quality double.

There are hundreds I'll happily do without. The list of guns I actually still want is much shorter. There are none that I want that I have decided I'll never own. My brain doesn't work that way.

Here are a few examples of broad categories or calibers of guns I will never own because for me they serve no conceivable need:

Any revolver bigger than .44 Magnum (maybe a .45 LC)
Any pistol bigger than .45 ACP
Any centerfire rifle in a caliber smaller than .224 (exception: .204 Ruger)
Anything full auto
Any micro-mini 9mm or .40S&W (but maybe a pocket .380 or .32)
Any rifle larger in caliber than .458
Any shotgun lager than 12ga

I guess that about covers it. Even if I had more money than a Hip-Hop star, the list would not likely change. I really can't see ever putting any of these into my safe.

I really go back and forth on a .50 BMG. Having one is possible - being able to shoot it proves more difficult because of range limitations and such. I was close to having the money put together to buy either a Bushmaster BA50 or an Armalite AR50 last year but I decided to take a pass and buy something practical like a safari gun instead! At least I can shoot it at my range.

I would really love a 20mm Vulcan, and a full auto belt fed MG, and a full auto shotgun, and a mini gun but doubt I will ever own any of those.

I do intend to get a nice double rifle some day though.

I will never own a glock, and that's just because I don't want one.

At this point, the ones that I would like to own but common fiscal sense will probably cause me not to get one are: Anshutz 22 rifle, Cooper 22 rifle, Kimber 22 rifle, Winchester 9422, a good 375 H&H rifle, a rifle chambered in 22 Hornet, Ruger 77/22, and a few others. But you never know...

1911 .45acp

I've looked and held and slobbered for years, but decided my only .45acp would be a Springfield Armory XD-S.

I've limited myself to one handgun, and one rifle. Economics. Wish it wasn't that way, but that's life. Oh, I forgot...2 rifles (one hasn't been used in over 30 years).

Among my grail guns, which I will likely never get, include:
  • Sig P210 or Sig P210 legend - the price alone puts this out of my reach
  • Schofield revolver
  • Thompson SMG, MP40, or anything else Class III for that matter...

S&W Model 45. This is the M&P in 22 Long Rifle. They go for $1,500-$1,800 in recent sales. I COULD buy one... I just can't justify spending that much for what is mostly a curiosity.

I know the feeling about "mostly a curiosity". Practical reality sometimes slaps you in the face. A S&W Govenor or Taurus 45/10 are curiosities that I would take if someone gave them to me, but probably wouldn't spend my own money for.

A Ruger #1 in just about any caliber. I think they are about the most beautiful rifles ever built.
I can afford one but I just cant justify a single shot that I'd never take to the field for fear of scuffing it up.
Who knows maybe one day I'll come across a prescuffed one but I aint holdin my breath.

I have always wanted a Savage model 24, with a .308 upper and a 20 Ga lower. I no longer live where that combination would make a good grouse/blacktail combo, nor are my eyes good enough for open sights.

Maybe this doesn't qualify, but I would love to own a Glock, but prolly never will. This is because even after hours of trying to get used to the grip angle, I will go back to as if I was using a normal grip angle. Glocks are great pistols, but there are plenty of high quality options for me to shoot without having to always concentrate on compensating.

Everything wojownik said, and an M1A. I was eyeballing the Standard Loaded, and even when I was standing there and could have pulled it off at a gun show, I just couldn't justify the expense. Bought a Garand from the CMP instead. Now that I think about it, maybe I shouldn't have bought the EMP, and ponied up a few hundred more. On the Thompson front, I do have a buddy who has a couple, so I could at least fire one.

Guns I'd like, but am unlikely to own . . .

Sig P210-8
H&K MP5SD
A quality double rifle, preferably in .475 NE
A high quality Navy Luger . . . heck, any really nice Luger
Ithaca Auto Burglar
Enfield No. 4 Mk 2

I technically have the funds for certain guns listed, but I choose not to spend that much $$$. (There's a 50/50 chance I'll eventually get the last item on the list, as good ones do come up from time to time; I just missed one a few months back. And I passed on one priced several hundred dollars too high.)

HankB:
As for the nicer Enfield #4/Mk. 2s, they always seem over-priced, even when you see at a glance that a few were abused.

Ammo prices are the main hang-up. Prices to buy/reload (banged-up brass) .308 or whatever NATO 7.62 is left also means no M-1A, FN FAL or modern clone

The Robinson Arms XCR-M .308 etc: very high gun and high ammo prices. "Faliaphotography" operates/disassembles it on Youtube.
