What Gun Did You Really Want . . . Before You Didn't

In one of the greatest lines of Doublespeak ever uttered this side of 1984 -- An otherwise serious candidate for high office once tried to explain his voting record on an issue by saying that he "voted for" a particular bill before he "voted against it."

In this vein, although I have never run for elected office, there are several guns that I really wanted before I realized that I didn't. These include a Remington 31 Riot Gun, which I convinced myself I really wanted . . . before I convinced myself that I really didn't. In fact, not only did I not buy the 31, I have sold two of the riot guns I did buy.

Any other: "I really wanted it . . . before I didn't"

Definitely the KelTec RFB. I really, REALLY wanted one from the first time I saw it. A couple years went by until I had the opportunity to shoot one, and that put a big wet blanket on my interest. It didn't balance as well as I'd expected, and it malf'ed so much I had to designate a mallet just to unlocking it on every second or third round.

I'll just stick to my tanker M1 now.

That one's easy. S&W 4506. I wanted one since I first handled one in the 80s.

One turned up at my LGS earlier this year & I was on it. Handling it I reallized the plastic grips were cheesey and the trigger was absolutely gawdawful. I actually put money down on it though & was immediately sorry. Then the SIG 2022 went on sale & they let me canx the S&W and I bought the 9mm for the wife's anniversary present.

If I get another DA .45ACP it'll probly be a SIG 220.

Well, the first time I saw a Desert Eagle, I wanted one. I then read up that unless you're a rich super pistoleer, it's pretty much a compensation toy.

Anybody want a 10mm stock II

Howdy gang,

I've had a Stock II 10mm nearly one year and took it to the range several times in the spring and summer. After several sessions, this is one gun purchase I'd like a mulligan for.

I love this gun for its accuracy and the fantastic grip, but the reliability has me jaded against going concealed carry with it. I simply can't trust the damn thing.

Anyhow, I'm considering trading it away for the phenomenally priced FN FNX .40 that's practically dirt cheap right now (saw one the other day for 450 bones). I also looked at Taurus' 840 pistol, but the Taurus I have now needs a trip to the gun doctor for the effing crap sights.

Any input on either of these pistols from owners?

I tried a Taurus revolver, because I was told that a revolver was better for a new shooter. I was able to get rid of it a month later, traded in on a Glock that actually could be reloaded. I learned to research for myself, before I buy and to buy quality.

So let me get this strait, you buy a 1911 from a company that makes guns on the cheap, sometimes they work great, and sometimes they don't. Then buy another from a company that is known to have problems, so you just discount 1911's entirely?? Whatever floats your boat I guess....

I'd have to say mine would be a 50 cal rifle. I'd sure like to have one, then when I think about it I realize i have issues even finding enough range to use my 308, and I don't plan on ever moving.

For me it would be an H&K P9S in .45ACP. I thought this was the next great step in semi-auto pistol design and manufacture; a new generation of advanced technology. That is until I bought one and had trouble reaching the trigger in DA mode and with using the slide mounted safety. Or when I went to disassemble it and found that it was a lot more complicated than I was used to. Couple that with difficulty finding spare mags and parts, and with it being somewhat tempermental with anything other than FMJ, made this a gun I really didn't want after I had really wanted it.

AR15 of any sort.

I used to sorta want one, but decided I will be much more content to simply inherit the family M1's someday.

+1

At one time I wanted one, this was maybe back in 1992 or so. Now I just can't see the purpose. Like Tallinar, some sort of M1 variant would be great.

For me it was the Walther P99 when they first came out. I liked all their design ideas, but when I finally shot one... it just didn't work for me. I was all over the target with it, and just couldn't shoot well. Other folks would shoot the same gun fine.

40 years ago....a 10 ga double.....i made the mistake, ONCE, of pulling both triggers at the same time with the gun in near verticle postion on some geese. It kicked like a pissed off mule but at least it was ugly.

A Colt Pocket Nine. Thought it was going to be the greatest carry gun ever built. It wasn't. Trigger pull was like dragging a refrigerator down a gravel road. Colt automatics have made me a firm believer in Smith & Wesson revolvers.

I was caught up in the "get a .50BMG/.500 S&W before they ban them" hoopla for awhile, but I don't have much use for either, the .50 is a big investment, and the .500 is just a novelty to me, so I never did buy either one.

Ruger LCP. It did everything that it was supposed to do, and reliably. But it just wasn't what I was looking for. Wish I had known that before I dropped $100 on an extra mag and a custom holster.
