I recently bought a Colt Walker repro. Now I'm plagued with trivia. Is it oo-berti or yew-berti ? I've heard it both ways.

More pertinent questions to come later, I'm sure.

If Italian is anything like Spanish, it would be oo-bert-ee, where the e in bert is a long A sound. But since I don't speak either, I wouldn't recommend paying much attention to me.

Yeah, it's oo-ber-ti with the accent of the middle syllable. But you have to wave your hands around and spit a little bit on the "ber" part to be authentically Italian.

While we're on the subject of Uberti, I wish they make a new cap and ball replica. The only new thing I know they are introducing in a SAA with a swing out cylinder.

Italian really isn't like Spanish. I used to try and pronounce Pedersoli like it was Spanish, but it turns out it's "pedder solly" (rhymes with cheddar Molly), not "payder souley." In case anyone was wondering about that one, too.

For Uberti, the American sales reps say "you berty," so I dunno.

Since it could be

Yew-Burr-Tee

Or

Oooo-Burr-Tee

Or

Yew-Bear-Tee

Or

Ooo-Burr-Tee

Or Yew-Burr-Tie

Or Yew-Bear-Tie

Or Ooo-Burr-Tie

Or Ooo-Bear-Tie

Or any of those ending in 'Tay' instead...

I try and cover my bases, so I just call it

Yew-Ooooo-Burr-Bear-Teeee-Tie-Tay.

I have to repeat it sometimes at Gunshows though, or, I just point.

The correct way (which is not necessarily the American way) is oo-BER-ti. And the "ber" is a soft ber like in the word berry, not like the ber in the name Bert. Now, let's all say it, oo-BER-ti, oo-BER-ti. Good.

Now Bubba, the clerk at the local gun store, won't know what the heck you're talking about. If you're lucky, he'll say, "You mean you want a YOU-BERT-TY"

If you say "Eye-rack", "Eye-ran" and/or "Eye-talian", you should pronounce it "Yew-burty"...

If you say "Ih-rock", "Ih-ron" and/or "Ih-talian", you should pronounce it "Oo-berti"...

Glad to have been of service! :D

I might just decide to go with "Yoooo-Bear-Tie".

Next Gun Show -

Me - "Whaddaaya need outta that good lookin' Yoooo Bear Tie there pardner?"

Seller - "What?"

Lol...
