None of the above.

Behind the bedroom door is a pump action Remington in 35 Remington.

In the den at the desk is a Winchester 94 in 32 Winchester Special.

Both loaded, ready to go. Mostly concerned with critters but will work for the two legged kind also I suppose.

Historically I would guess more homesteads have been defended with lever action 30-30's than any other rifle. The 7.62x39 is a similiar ballistic option but available semi auto.

If you have neighbors I think it best to stick with a 9mm carbine or shotgun.

I don't really rely on a rifle for HD. I have an XD45 and a Mossberg 12 Gauge setup for that. I do have an M4 with a couple loaded magazines that I could get to relatively quickly if needed, so I voted for .223.

I use my 12Ga. as the primary (destined to be replaced with a SxS 20Ga. in the near future), my secondaries are M1 .30Carbine, M17S .223Rem., and VZ.58 7.62x39mm in that order. I am considering putting the M1 into early retirement in favor of the VZ.58, as the primary secondary (no worries though, it'll still be the "trail gun"). :p

An AK-47 in 7.62x39 is what I have chosen if I need to use a rifle for HD. I don't own an M4 in .223 yet but that would be my other choice for a rifle. Pistol is either a .38SPL or .45ACP.

o0

Mossberg 590 with 8 rounds of 00 buckshot here (I'd probably leave the bayonet in the closet..).

I'd be concerned about over-pentration with a rifle round indoors with kids etc in the house.

After the shotgun runs dry, it is my Mosin with bayonet attached. Sadly 12 gauge or 7.62x54 wasn't among the options:-( Maybe I wouldn't bother with the bayonet, but if they survived 6 rounds from the shotgun I may need it.

Thanks for all the feed back. I apologize again for the lack of options, I should've done it while I had more time. There's no prizes but I think the guy with the .416 Rigby won:)

If I can't get to my 12 gauge then my Marlin 336 will do in a pinch. 30-30 is just fine for my defense needs. A lever gun with a red dot is actually a decent defensive weapon.

I picked the 223 option, but in reality I'll just grab the closest thing to me- wont really care what it is. If you need a weapon, you'll need it fast. If I have time to sort through and pick what I want, I'm also putting on body armor and calling in some fire support- or just the police.

Another vote for 30 carbine here.
I have an AK and an AR, but I prefer the handling of the M1 Carbine, and find the performace of the 30 carbine 110SP to be sufficient.

Are you a High Road member who resides in Kenya? We have some really big dudes in our neck of the woods, but none as big as Paul Bunyan and his blue ox. I think the muzzle blast alone would scare BOTH of them to death.

I have read that most home invasions are comprised of more than one guy. So my plan is to wait for them to line up and then have at them.
