I responded in another thread that of all the guns I've sold or traded, the S+W 640 (.357, pre-lock) was the one I really wish I had hung on to. I know many on this forum like to buy, sell and trade for lots of different reasons. Give us the story on the gun at the top of your "wish I could have back" list. (Why'd you sell or trade it to begin with and what makes you want it back?) Has anyone actually gotten one back?

The S&W 640 (.357) will be my next wheel gun purchase! Hopefully one will show-up soon for a decent price. Way-back-when I sold a Ruger Security Six that I wish I still had.

Great idea for a thread, by the way.

Of all the guns I have sold, I wouldn't mind having my Security Six back. My first centerfire handgun, I traded it away like an idiot for something "more accurate". In reality, the gun was fine, it was me who needed more practice.

Recently, after moving to a state where used guns can actually be found at realistic prices, I came across an identical Security Six for sale with the same finish, barrel length, and hideous Pachmyr grips as mine. It was even marked at the same price as I paid ten years back. A sign?

I want them back...

Colt SAA 45 Colt
Colt NF SA 44 Spcl
Colt NF SA 357 Mag
Colt Gold Cup 45 ACP as modified by Jim Clark Sr.

:(

salty.

I guess you could say all of them because I would have a pretty big collection. If I had to choose one it would be my first Ruger P97. 6 months after I traded it off I found a used one that would jam even racking the slide for the first round traded that one off for a SS Service Six.

EAA Witness 40, CZ75 Compact, Ruger Mini-14 and K-98 Mauser. In descending order of importance. Oh, yeah. UZI Model B. Maybe I could find out why it was a jammamatic.

Only been a few that I truly regretted selling or trading over the years ...

One was a M36 nickeled 3" heavy barrel that I foolishly sold off many years ago ... and the other cop I sold it to will probably never part with it, dammit. :) He just laughed at me the last time I asked about it ...

I wish I'd kept my Marlin .444, my early Ruger .44 semi-auto carbine, and a couple of Ruger Speed-Six .357's ...

I once made the mistake of getting rid of a Ruger 3-screw Blackhawk .357/9mm convertible ... but it came back to me in pristine condition. I don't think the fellow it fired much, if at all, while he had it. I'll never allow that one to slip through my hands again ...

In no particular order:
Colt Huntsman
Late 60's blued BHP
Colt Detective Special
Colt Gold Cup (nah, not really)
CMP Garand (since replaced)
Stainless Security Six

If we're talking pistols, it would be my Mitchell Sportking. It wasn't quite the equal of my Trophy, but the nostalgic value makes up for it. Had to sell it while I was in Nursing school. Went from making $70+K a year to a part time job in a microfilm lab. Sold the 'King to pay an electric bill. :(
Overall however I wish I could get the Mauser back that my grandfather's friend had given me. A true war bring back, all markings intact, in beautiful shape. Pretty accurate too. For some reason I decided I had to have a lever action because that's what everyone else had and traded it for my .444 marlin. Granted, I love my Marlin, but it's not likely I'll ever be able to replace that old mauser.
Just had to get rid of several of my 311's to pay bills and I sure miss them, but I was careful in where they went this time and I'm pretty sure I can get them back when I'm back to normal.

There are two in particular I wish I didn't sell.

My Taurus 82 was my first handgun and I sold it after 6-10 months. At the time I had this weird idea that I'd only own 2-4 handguns. I had just bought my S&W 65LS. Since I "knew" I'd only want a couple guns I didn't see the point of keeping two medium-frame revolvers, one .38 and one .357, they were just too similar. So, I stupidly sold my 100% reliable first handgun.'

The other is the CZ 40B that I sold. Great gun, but I wasn't a big fan of .40S&W at the time and the gun wasn't great for what I bought it for. I meant it to be my carry gun if I move or when visiting states where I could carry. While reasonably light (28oz) it is big and thick enough to be a bit too large to be quite right for carry (not bad, it would work, but not ideal). Meanwhile, it was light enough, and just short enough (4" barrel if I recall correctly) to not be a regular full-size and have a slight disadvantage at the range. It just was an in-between size that wasn't perfect enough. Still, it was good at the range and it would be decent for carry, and it was accurate and quite reliable so it was a dumb move. Now, to replace it I've seen used 40Bs go for 50-70% more than what I sold it for :banghead:

I want my Contender back. It had two 14 inch scope barrels in .223 and .44 mag and a 10 inch .410. I traded it all for a Desert Eagle in 50 AE and while it was fun to shoot, the ammo was exspensive. By the time I realized I made a mistake, my Contender was gone. :(

Easy, I sold a Colt Officer's ACP with the Ultimate Stainless finish to pay to get my car back on the road back in college. I should have walked for a few months. It was soooooooo pretty and I guess I was lucky because it was my most reliable 1911 style pistol to date.

Also in college I pawned a 2.5" blue python for $250.00 and forgot about it. Did I ever tell you that I'm not so smart sometimes. :banghead:

Heres a picture of a gun like the Officer's ACP I had but mine was perfect.

This is the gun I most miss:

SIG P226ST 9mm and a much rarer Colt Police Positive Special MK V. :banghead:

*note:The pics of the colt are pics of a PPS MK V I've found on the net, not the actual revolver that I once owned.

Got rid of two guns that I wholeheartedly regret selling.

One was one of the 5000 limited edition S&W 629 Mountain Revolvers (the initial run before it became standard production). Thought I was getting out of bigbores and sold it for what I had in it.

The other was a Beretta 85F. Nice little gun. Same story as the Mountain Revolver.

Both of these guns are still in production, but geting new ones would end costing about twice what I originally paid. Besides the 629 was pre-lock (I'm not rabid about not having the lock, but if I can manage it, I prefer to get one without the lock).

Wish I Had Back

Yes, there are two S&W K-frames I wish I had back. The Model 17, blue 6in, 22lr and a somewhat unique Model 14, Blue 6in, 38 spec that was SINGLE ACTION. When you pulled the trigger the cylinder would rotate and the hammer would move back somewhat but the firearm would not fire. It fired ONLY in SA. The Model 14 had both target trigger and hammer and bought it in Spokane, WA in mid-1970's. I believe both S&W and Colt made such target arms. Wish I had both guns now. Another "wish I had back" is a Colt SAA, 45colt, blue bought many years ago. Traded it when I got a new Colt New Frontier, SAA, 45colt (last generation) which by some instinct I have kept as a "safe queen." I just got an S& W Model 25 Blue 4in Mountain Gun in .45 colt to shoot the .45colt round in.

The one I want back the most was one of the first couple thousand Glock 17s in the US. I shot the snot out of it and sold it, but now I really want it back in a bad way.

I once had a Colt 1991A1 that had a little bit of work done to it by Cylinder & Slide. I often wish that I had not sold it.

Never sold a gun but I do kind of miss the Porsche 914 I traded for a Luger and cash...
I too miss a Porsche 914 I sold to my brother (but I needed the money for knee surgery for my dog...he had a torn ACL, which on a human isn't that bad, but on a dog its crippling) I would have much rather got a Luger and cash (I did get a RAP 401 as part of the deal).

I sold a Kahr MK40 Elite98 a while back to buy an AR-15 ... I really miss the little guy.

I have since traded the AR for a Kahr MK9 Elite98 ... and while I don't miss the AR all that much, I wish I didn't get rid of it (but I'm much happier with the Kahr ... I'll have to buy another EBR some day).
