Rifle- In most situations I would perfer an AK-103 (the updated version of the Russian AKM) in 7.62X39mm. The Kalashnikov system isn't the best performing rifle in the world, but it may be the most reliable.

Handgun- As to the handgun, I would take a Smith and Wesson Model 60 with 2in barrel in .38 Special. The reason I would take a small handgun is because I would prefer to dedicate more weight and space to taking more AK magazines with me. In fact, in many situations, I would rather skip the handgun entirely in favor of an extra 20 or 30 round AK mag.

Saiga .223 and a Glock 9mm. I'm not a fan of glock, but in wartime/field condition's, they are the most proven pistol. I also prefer the saiga to the M-4 because in my opinion, the saiga has better field reliability, its a simple design also.

Pistol would definitely be a .45. I have a very sweet and very reliable Smith 4506-1, stainless with Novac sights. It will feed an empty case and is robust enough for 45 ACP +P.

Do remember at war you are stuck with GI RN jacketed. Do not know what Geneva Convention had against killing a guy who was trying to kill you. Son tells me the Army said it is better to wound since he will need 2 buddies to carry him off. Wounded soldiers can keep firing. I say kill the scumbag and his buddies too.

Rifle? No question to me. The M1 Garand was the finest battle implement ever devised by man per George Patton. Totally reliable and accurate plus it can put a lot of well aimed shots down range in a hurry. I would choose the lighter tanker's model in 308 if I had to carry it and the ammo all day.

Yes I am an old f*rt. Do not know why the US insists on giving combat soldiers a .22 and telling him there is such a thing as a controlled burst. I say carry a totally reliable GI proof weapon and go for one shot, one kill.

I would probably be a medic though and would need a weapon just for close in defense that was reliable and easy to carry. In that case a revolver in either .45 ACP or 44 Special. Had a buddy who was a Navy medic in 'Nam. He got total of three close in kills and saved his wounded with an old Model 1917 45 revolver.

Join the Army. Go to fascinating far away places. Meet interesting, exotic people. And kill them

Carrying my own ammo....

Hello friends and neighbors // In war I would rather be carrying all my own ammo then relying on supply line.

Rifle: any reliable semi auto, syn. stock, 22.lr with 2000 rounds, multiple mags (I know I'd need a cleaning kit too)

Have heard of deer + taken with 22lr. (not that I'd advocate this )

Revolver: 6" , 357/38 w/ 9mm conversion cylinder, 200 assorted rounds ,power and versatility when ammo could be hard to find. 0022lr and 357.jpg

I might still be able to carry water, food,first-aid, and minimal shelter. ;- )

+1 on killing them outright. The "wounding" thing is a bunch of BS when the enemy does NOT give a rats ass about his comrade. This was the same line of reasoning when going to the smaller 5.56 round in Vietnam. Oh, the NVA just loves their brother man soooo much that two will be taken out of the fight to drag an injured one off to safety. WRONG. Same for the animals in the sandbox as well. They'll just let 'em die where they lay... Now you have two more even pissed off enemy soldiers charging you AND a wounded one who may very well just keep firing when he should have been put down for GOOD.

Age thing? I think the younger folks came along after the military took away our real rifles and gave us 22s.

I was in USAF when we made the transition from M1 Carbine to M-16. Pity.

If I had to carry weapons into war, and I could choose the combo, then it's a war here on our soil and I'd carry what I own (that's one of the reasons why I own 'em). I'd follow those who have experience/training and do what they say.

I'd carry my armalite ar-10 carbine and a Sig 228 in a leg holster.

If I had to go to war away from the country, I'd probably have to carry what I'd be issued.

More mags, of course. Hopefully by the time I were to have to carry this to war, some time will have passed enough for me to have saved to accessorize the weapon to my desire, but as is I believe it would suffice.

An M4 and a 1911A1, both have been battle tested and proven by the US Military. Moot point either way, with two bum legs I'll never see combat.

a cheytac m200 intervention caliber .408 sniper rifle
a Barrett REC7 full auto gas piston operated caliber 6.8 SPC
a CZ 75B caliber 9mm with green DOT laser sights

I'd be willing to bet the older crowd (45+) go for the larger caliber. (308 & 45)
i agree, although i'm probably one of the younger guys at 26, and i comppletely went against the norm with a decent sized round (.338 lapua) and bolt action.

That 338LM would be my second gun, were I able to have two available. I'm one of the younger guys too, just a year older than you.

Probably a desert tactical arms scout recon suppressed.

yes but you have to watch out for those guys wearing vests with 3 trauma plates on them, your 338 lapua will be rendered useless!

+1 on the CheyTac Intervention as a primary rifle

As for a pistol...I would take a Glock 17 with a Glock 26 hidden somewhere on my rig...
