Went to scheels yeaterday. Lone 642 in case 600.00+ clams! Yikes! Sp101 800.00+. I’ve got 200 rds of 38/357 and I’m not shooting any of it. I v ote for undercover as carry. I love mine. Pocket holster, iwb 5:00, vest pocket etc. snubs are so versatile.Aw come on where is mention of the S&W 642.......
My thoughts on your choices.
"$500 or less" and ".357" means Charter Arms or Taurus. Charters have a tendency to (in my experience) eat transfer bars. So, your option is Taurus.
If you can swing the extra money, get one of the Smiths. "Two is one, one is none."
Any of the j-frames (or equivalents, the T605 and the Charter Undercover and Mag Pug) will be easy to find stuff for. Everyone makes holsters, there are a bunch of options for speed loaders, that kind of thing. Not so much for the others.
The Taurus 605 is a j-frame clone. The 856 is going to be different enough to need a different holster. (If they were to ever make that in .357, especially the 3" version, it would be extraordinarilly popular.)
The Bulldog is fun. "Boomier" than a .38 snub. I just wish it were more rugged. And that Safariland made a speed loader for it.
Well, my buddy has one.....?I have to look into that model a little more. It wasn't on Taurus website.

Charter Bulldog frames , Taurus 856 & SP101 are pretty much the same size .. weight difference.. but very close frame size .. I have used SP101 , Colt D holsters for my Bulldog dog frame revolvers
I have thought about trying one. I don't know if I could get used to it. My concern would be that it's a defensive gun and after years of shooting right handed revolvers they are second nature. I should look for one just to see if it would be something that I would like. Thanks for the suggestion. Why not get something different. CA Southpaw.
Why a 327 over a 357 or 38?the Ruger in .327
Capacity, 6 shots vs 5.Why a 327 over a 357 or 38?
Never heard the 340 called a gem. I have had friends shoot it once and hand it back using two fingers. “I don’t know how you can shoot that”. Now mind you, I shoot 38 special low recoils for practice. That helps some.I have a 340PD as well.... interesting little gem. I tote my 640(38) far more often.
I jog/run with a Ruger LCR! It feels like I have nothing on with how light it is! Fits anywhere and goes anywhere with me.
I've tried to figure out how to do this. Without a belt holsters are tough so what do you do?
