New Hampshire seems to have one of the best ones but it seems as though Arizona has us beat. Which state has the most gun friendly laws on the books?

with out a doubt Vt has the best gun laws.......manly due to the fact that they dont have any.

VA is a gold star state.

A couple of silly laws that don't really affect anything. 1 handgun per 30 days (unless you're a dealer or have a CCP). A few guns banned by name (but I think those are federal bans). Open carry w/out permit, CCP is easy to get.

Pretty great.

The Armstel Striker (and copies) and like 3 others that I can't remember. Also, any guns with less than a certain amount of metal, but I've never heard of one that qualifies...

Kentucky is very gun friendly. The only thing any other state has on us, is we require a shall-issue license for concealed carry, where a small number do not.

If you use golf scoring and look at Brady's State rankings (I hate giving their website any traffic, but they are useful for comparing how free the various States are.), there is a 3-way tie at 0 between Arizona, Alaska, and Utah.

Tied for second place at 2 points each are Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana,, Montana, and Oklahoma.

Honorable mention goes to the states with 4 points each: Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, and West Virginia.

The Best score possible by their rankings is actually -2, if a State does not require a permit to carry (and has no other points against it.)

Vermont and New Hampshire actually both have 6 points each, even though Vermont has a -2 points included in its score.

It's refreshing to see that the vast majority of states still score 10 or less out of 100, and that only one State (California) even approaches what the Brady Bunch feels are sensible gun regulations.

Of course their scoring is skewed, and some states may be more or less free when it comes to firearms than what the Bradys have presented.

I'd pick Arizona as the best gun state if not the best gun laws.

Wide open desert with hilly/mountainous terrain so you can just go shoot.

Basically VT style gun laws but you can have suppressors and they issue CCW permits for reciprocity.

New Mexico is pretty free, but there are a lot of restrictions for OC/CCers and where they can carry, which is common throughout the states. There are some nice "loopholes" (I hesitate to call them that, because they're commonsense) like the ability to carry concealed with an "unloaded" handgun (Maybe just without a round in the chamber, maybe the magazine has to be out)

Arizona beats us by a bit, I think their main addition is no license for CCing is required. They may have a couple places where you're allowed to carry where we aren't in NM, but I'm not super familiar with their laws (The last time I was there, I wasn't quite a teenager...)

I would have to say Montana beats us by a bit. More places to carry unlicensed CC than NM, but a license is required in town. Then they have a "Firearms Freedom act" which, whether constitutionally valid or not, is a testament to the state's consistency when dealing with firearms.

Vermont of course. It has Constitutional Carry for concealed and open, private sales, no AWB, mag cap limits, banned models, or purchase limits.

California has the best gun laws. They have laws covering just about evry aspect of gun ownership and shooting. The have volumes of laws related to guns. How can you top that?

What would cause NH to have six points?

What would cause NH to have six points?
  • Gun Dealer Regulations: State license required
  • No Guns in Workplace: Employers not forced to allow firearms in parking lots
  • No Guns on College Campuses: Colleges are not forced to allow firearms on campus

From the Brady rankings, NH has 3 strikes against it, at 2 points each.

1) A State license is required for FFL's.
2) "Employers not forced to allow firearms in parking lots".
3) "Colleges are not forced to allow firearms on campus".

There are a lot of states where 2) and 3) are present.

Last 2 states I've been stationed in, Oklahoma and Louisiana, have had very gun friendly laws. I like both of them for the gun laws, low cost of living and the fact that the window tint laws for cars are good, no vehicle emissions and only a front plate is required.

Then again, coming from Illinois, it's hard to be worse!
