Which State is the MOST ANTIGUN?

Can't speak for any other state, but NJ is hell. I've had a gun permit (aka FID card) for 6 years w/ no issues w/ the law, mental illness (excluding the response I get when the wife gets going), not so much as a traffic violation. Since i recently moved, I have to go through the whole damn process again.

The local police chief sent out questionnaires to my references asking them to testifying as to my character, integrity, whether i'm a drunk, addict, or have a proclivity for violence.

So in effect, I have to prove i'm worthy to own guns I already legal own. What kind of **** is that?

The NJ AWB that turned thousands of legal gun owners into felons....and now thanks to Corzine, your facing a 2nd degree felony charges if your AR has a bayonet lug attached. According to what I read, those are stricter penalties than those faced by people who sell child porn...***?!?

California's definitely one of the worst, but I still go shooting all the time out here, both at ranges and on federal lands. I meet people who are into shooting all the time-- just made another shooting buddy today-- and lately am meeting a lot of people who say they'd like to learn, considering the direction the country seems to be going. Many of them are liberals.

Many of you may not know: there's a bill in the CA Assembly right now waiting to get voted out of committee (sent to the floor, whatever the term is) that would make CA a shall-issue state. Check out AB 357 if you're interested-- it doesn't really make a new law, it just changes 7 words in the existing law. If we became a shall-issue state, the only real gripes I'd have left would be the 10-round mag limit and registration.

By area, most of this state is conservative, rural, and well-armed. By population, it's mostly urban, timid, rude, liberal, and terrified of guns. I'm not really getting my hopes up about AB 357, but... well, who am I kidding? Of course I'm getting my hopes up.

California, Illinois, New York, and New Jersey are all so far down the drain that I can't tell which one is the worst.

They're easily the best places to move to if one supports gun control. They're also great places to live if you enjoy being murdered. Weird...

i live in baltimore, md. one gun a month and 7 waiting period is a pain in the ass. also it's illegal to fire a gun in the city, so i have to drive outside to the county for target practice.

Its not quite as simple as it may seem.

Of the bunch, only Illinois has no statewide restrictions on what guns can be owned (short of NFA material). But is also the only one of the bunch that has zero potential for the average citizen getting a carry permit.

I'm gonna have to say the home of the new world order (NY) wins this one. It beats California because of the incredible hassle and high cost in getting the paperwork and permit to merely OWN a handgun. Entire companies exist in NY which are dedicated solely to helping people navigate the ridiculous paperwork. From what I understand, NY also is very iron fisted in it's penalties for non violent non compliance. The gun laws mirror the satanic "Rockefeller" laws which have filled up the prisons with non violent drug offenders.

Although my state is nowhere near the top of the most gun friendly state, I'm glad that it is at least nowhere near the top of this list.

California - and I speak firsthand as a resident. Worst "infringement" in all of the 50 states. Thumb through some gunbroker auctions and see how many of them say "No sales to California".

I'd like someone explain to me the difference between 'registered' and 'instant background check'. Think your not 'registered' in a database after the check?

Get real. You're non-officially 'registered'.

It would probably be California. It never recovered from all those bans and restrictions implemented by Gov Reagan under the guise of cracking down on the fear of the Black Panthers. 50 years later the state has been ruined by the junk.

California! They've earned the "K" in my opinion.

Anyone remember the SKS CONFISCATIONS? Gun registration, 50 caliber ban, magazine restrictions, etc. In California they may confiscate your 50 cal. rifle for no reason and then the may (or may not) ever give it back - that's in the law! You may not transfer certain weapons within the state, you cannot leave them to your children in the state - free men to slaves in one generation, how convenient!

We should have a section where we can form up and help each other move to Gun friendly places to live- A support group if you will -Moving to a new place is such a stressful thing to do It keeps people from moving [It did in my dads case] it would be a godsend if you had a mentor and a person you could call on when you planned a move and got to your new home untill you setteled in ..

I've heard that NJ had a ban on hollowpoint ammunitition. Is there any other states that do this?

I don't know which is the worst, but NJ is the last state in the union I would want to live, on an overall analysis. IL, MA, CA, MD, CT, & NY would be hell on earth for me, too (roughly in that order).

... CT...would be hell on earth for me, too (roughly in that order).

An over-reaction about the Nutmeg State, I think. As a practical matter, you have to have a LTC to own and use a handgun, which means you have to go to class. Your semi-auto rifle is going have to be free of some evil features. I think the most onerous restrictions are on semi-auto handguns. Some may object to the waiting periods on purchase.

I can see that someone moving in from the wide open spaces of the west would feel somewhat hemmed in. You are pretty much restricted to shooting at a range, and development is crowding a lot of the ranges. That situation is only going to get worse. I don't know about hunting, but hunters seem to find a place.

California is by far the worst. everything must be registered, nothing can hold more than 10 rounds, ammo cant even be shipped to certain counties and the list goes on I live here and all I can say is that if you enjoy freedom dont ever come to california..... oh and by the way disneyland is overrated.

Just to answer a few of the "jersey" questions...(Thank God I left there)

Just out of curiosity do you know if 22's are exempt? Me and my buddies always joked that our 22's were illegal(with CBs they would hold 16/17).

YES they are illegal! Any weapon that can hold more than 15 rounds is considered an assault weapon (Marlin 60's are banned because this).

Every municipality can set its own rules about FOID applications...

NO! It is not illegal to purchase or own hollowpoints; it is, however, illeagal to shoot another person with them  . But they are fine for the target range.

I would think Mass or NJ would be the worst. They don't even like you to defend yourself in your own home.

Even CA and NY has gun-friendly parts.

Hey! We can can have full-auto (just not select-fire) weapons, suppressors (or the more politically correct "noise abaitment devices"), most EBR's, and shall-issue CCW permits.

Not as good as some, but a lot better than others...
