Who are you?

Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.

SINCE THEN...:D

30, soon to 31
Married with 1 2 year old son, and another son due end of August
Network Manager

Almost 60 and spend a lot of time musing on what was. MWM, conservative on many things, liberal on many things

Married 26 years to a wonderfully tolerant woman; two kids (boy & girl, one is a joy the other a challenge to like sometimes and still living at home; I'll let you guess which is which), one grandkid (boy), and another on way (better be a girl)

Own our own retail business so can't afford toys like I used to be able to when I sold software (maybe there is a message there)

Enjoy shooting paper, groundhogs, and yotes; thinking about taking up squirrel hunting again.

Lately I have this craving for an Mforgery

55 and still alive!
Married for 27 years.
No kids--who wants to grow up? :D
Two dogs, three cats, two hermit crabs.
Prison Librarian--just got my five year service pin today. :) Have been a librarian since 1984 working in a public library until 2001. Turning 50 was the best time of my life!
Own a lots of guns from .22s up to .45s and everything in between.
Started shooting at 53 and now am a competition shooter. You are NEVER too old to learn!!!!
Loved shooting the S&W 500 at the gun shop I worked in on weekends until it closed. :(

Turned 30 this past March 31. Mother reminds me every year that I owe her for willing that I not be born on April Fools' Day. Still think I'm 20 I guess. I hear about kids graduating high school who were born in 1987 and it blows me away. I still feel like I'm not that far removed from those days myself. Wow. But I am not someone bothered much by age. Didn't care when I turned 30.

Now as for my wife, you'd about think someone just died when she hit the big 3-0. Married 3 years, no kids yet but maybe soon. That is if she gets over the gun bug I now have. Doesn't like them, but more supportive than I'd expected. But she flipped out last night when I was going to take pics of my new acquisition. She was like, yeah, it's ok to have the gun but I'd rather you didn't and I don't really want to see it. But seemed ok. And then suddenly she sees me going to take pics of it and she goes nuts and asks what kind of freak takes a picture of his gun? I mean it was like every time you click a pic of a gun somewhere a kitten dies. VERY bizarre.

Three dogs and one great three-legged cat. Really interested in helicopters, motorcycles, and now guns. Kinda scared of 'em all too - go figure. Envy thumper723 because I want to fly choppers too. Took a few lessons thus far, but that's it. Don't have a sportbike yet, but just got a Browning Pro-9!

Really regret that I didn't join the service right out of high school. I think the world of our men & women in uniform. Patriotic kinda guy. Conservative with my politics. Love the outdoors and would like to travel and see it all. Current goal in that regard is to go see Yellowstone soon.

Drive a rare Isuzu Vehicross and love it and rallycross it some times.

Grandson of a Baptist preacher and probably the best man I'll ever know. Also the grandson of another good man and North Dakota farmer who I never knew but he wrote some opinion pieces in his local paper and I just got to read some. Think I'm a chip off that block. My Dad was in the Navy and was stationed here, met my Mom, and that's how I got where I am.

I ride around in a boat treating lakes for a living. Homeowners' asscociations, golf courses, businesses. It's alright. Working outside in a FL summer builds character. Alligators and cottonmouths do wonders for situational awareness. One day I'll be working for myself. It's the only way to work.

Like archery too - have a Reflex Timberwolf I enjoy shooting. Like swords too. Like studying history a lot.

Happily became a homeowner last July.

Pretty sure this is more than you wanted to know.

Darn near 50. Married to the same person I met over 35 years ago.
What a woman, what a mother.
I don't remember the rest of the question but just the same, here's to ya!

Retired teacher. Late 50's. Have owned, and plan to own, plenty of guns. Not unlimited means by any stretch of the imagination. One finds a way to afford those things which they really desire to own.

Just had to skim back and have a read - oh my - amazing thread and a great info resource. What a vast panoply of membership we have.

Since my original post (#58 Nov 14 2003) - not a huge lot of change but we have house paid off now and vehicles too - so monthly outgoings less painful. Pretty much stopped buying more guns - tho not sure when ''enough'' really takes effect finally!! And anyways, how do you define ''too many'' ;) :D

Further development has been grandfatherhood - one via my dear daughter, who is still stuck in UK - and two via my son, who is quite near to me. Final icing on the cake last year Sept 28 - I at last finished all my INS shenanigans and became officially a United States Citizen ........ now into my 7th year following escape from UK and finding my dear wife.

Keep the info coming folks - it is fascinating.

Chris:

Long time no "see" buddy! Congratulations on the grandfatherhood thing. When last I reported in I had just acquired my first two (darling little girls) and have since added a third (boy, born this past December) with one more (another boy) set to arrive ANY DAY NOW. I love it!

Congrats also on the citizenship and retirement of the mortgage. I'm on schedule to pull that off in about two more years (the mortgage burning, that is).

We definitely need to hook up and make some noise one of these days. Until then, shoot safe and be well.

Oh, almost forgot... there's no such thing as "enough." :D

DALE!!!

Hey - "Long time no "see" buddy!" - right back at you sir :)

Yes, these little miracles are fascinating but as I admit, having ''been there, done that'' in my younger years, not something I want to get into again - happy to stay 'peripheral' :D. These tho are our future and sure hope things are not as black for them as they sometimes appear.

Wish you were not so far out east but maybe, who knows, we might yet manage a lead hurling session - be most enjoyable. Stay in touch anyways one way or another.

Best to you and yours :)

Interesting thread:

39, SWM. Work in construction as a project manager which doesn't pay as well as you would think.

Guns are down at the moment, my interest in them isn't as great as it used to be.

36, MWM, One child, daughter, 7 mos. IT professional at a university. Shooter most of my life. Wife is a Nurse, and Army Desert Storm Vet (Combat Medic). First Gun: Ruger P89 in 1991, Ruger 10/22 Carbine in 1997, Mossberg 500 1997. Shot only occasionally for a long time, but recently decided we needed a SHTF weapon, and bought a Ruger Mini-14, and intend to shoot far more often and actually prepare for SHTF. (Funny what a new child does to your mind.)

Wish list includes S&W Model 28-2, S&W 637, and Ruger Super Redhawk.
My wife's wishlist: Pistol grip stock for Mini-14, AR-15.

Early 50's, married with five children three girls and a couple of boys, two dogs, two homes, two hundred acres, electronic manufacturer territory sales rep. Spend fall, late spring, and early winter hunting. Summer fishing. Late winter and early spring in any part of the world that is warm! Have over 25+ rifles and shotguns...mostly lever actions (18 Winchesters, 2 Marlins, 1 Savage). Looking to win the lottery within the next couple of years so I can open up my job to give the younger generation a chance.

Leif is an old college nickname that never went away.

If we had THR baseball cards, my card would indicate a 32-year old man of semi-rookie status, both with respect to life and guns. I'm engaged, and have progressed through some variety of careers, beginning with archaeology, progressing through libraries and museums, and now currently employed as an archivist. However, the hunt is on for something new, as I can't seem to leave well enough alone and crave interaction with people during the course of my workday (hence I wind up posting my life story to strangers, albeit anonymously). Any suggestions? :D

I don't hunt much anymore (never really cared for it all that much), but love to hike and camp, shoot, travel, and read. Guns, not much: S&W 629 Mountain Gun (.44mag), Ruger 10/22 International w/4x Burris scope (.22lr), Marlin 1894 (.44mag with WWG sight), and Browning BPS Hunter (12 guage); had some others, didn't care much for them and had to pay for the engagement ring, so they were sold. Two cats, and with hers, that will make three. I hate to see what will happen when we have kids!

Heraclid, I know what you mean. My fiance and I are moving in together next month, and I thought the whole 'gun thing' has been sorted out in a more or less satisfactory fashion, but when I showed up at her place this past weekend with my shotgun to go shoot with a friend while she worked, that caused some, shall we say, disruption. It was one thing to talk about guns in the abstract, quite another to have it show up at the door. Had to have the whole darn convseration over again, and it produced the same exact results it produced the first time we had it. :banghead:

About me:

I'm 21 and I just bought my first handgun (XD-40 service). I've shot shotguns for a while and done a little duck hunting. I am an engineer at American Airlines, but am still a student (doing a work-study program). No wife or family yet. I'm going to take the concealed carry class and apply here shortly.

Yikes! I just realized I was poster #666 in this thread! Now, where did I put those RFID chips?

Aw, why not? 59 yrs. young and waiting on retirement so I can devote more time to the important things in life, like shooting, horses, fishin', and taking pictures of wild critters.

Ex Navy Gunner's Mate here that spent most of that time on a destroyer, 1969 thru '72. I was the ship's sharpshooter for shark watch during swim call. Funny how I gained a bunch of new friends when the Old Man designated me that :D .

Bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, and my grad work centered on vertebrate autecology. I guess you could say I've led a "wild life" :D .

Worked for the US National Park Service for five years as a back country ranger doing mounted patrol and other ranger things. Three of those years were at Grand Canyon, and they were the best years of my life.

I came back home after my father's death and resulting problems, joined the police department, and after 24+ years, I'm a captain today and watch commander for the 3rd shift.

I don't get the chance to post that often here at THR. Some of you guys keep me too busy over at TFL ;) :D .

Hey guys and gals,
It's been a long time since I've been on THR and posted on this thread. I thought this died a long time ago, but I guess not.

Not much has changed. Jon (my hubby) has been working for a non-profit group so finances have been tough. We just got intgernet at our house so now I can get on here more often. Also we just paid off our car. We did it in 18 months instead of the 24 it was supposed to take. It felt really good making the last payment.

Other than that the only thing new is we are going to the Dominican Republic this summer. Check us out... http://www.drinkandflow.com/169069.ihtml This is our support page. Jon did it all himself. I was so excited about his ability to make this stuff. He may still be looking for freelance stuff if any of you want business cards, websites, etc.

Ok I think I've rambled enough. Hope all is well with everyone else.

Gus

Been looking at this post for a while, so here gos. I'm a young 70 year old, retired Air Force(Law Enforcement), former Fed.Police Officer w/U.S. Dept of Interior. Thinking of ending 27 years as a factory Rep. and find other things to keep me busy. So I'm starting to go to the range again, fish, metal detecting and of course the grandchildren. My wife (of 49 years) and I just completed a vacation home in Nv. We(HOA) have a firing range and skeet range on the property, so I don't have to go far. Enjoy reading all the posts on this site.:) :) :) :)
