Who buys all the new guns?

I've purchased 4 guns. The first was new; the rest were used.

I tend to like the looks of older guns more than newer ones, so it follows that most of my purchases are likely to be of used guns. However, there are a few new guns I want, and if I get the chance (chance = money) I'll buy them new, unless there's a great deal on a used one.

My collection is probably about half new and half used. I used to buy a lot of used guns. I would see bargains everywhere. I'm talking back in the 80s and even the 90s. I think Gunbroker has a lot to do with the fact that not many bargains show up anymore.
People see a fluke on there where somebody paid an outrageous amount for a gun that's "almost" like theirs and they want that amount also.
I once got tired of seeing overpriced guns on a site that I frequent and posted some generic prices of what Glocks, etc. can be bought for new.
I got some pretty nasty replies, mostly from people who were trying to get above retail for their used guns. Their logic ? Theirs is worth more because there isn't a paper trail.
In other words, they are trying to get a premium from the paranoid gunowners who don't want the government to know they have it. Whatever.

Its nice to read all your comments, much appreciated. Its seems like my purchases of used firearms are under what ther cost new mostly. Sometimes If they are very old, naturally they bring more what they cost 50-100 years ago, but alot cheaper than what they cost now. For example I bought a very clean S&W Model 28-2 4" for $225 last year. The comparable (N frame .357) from S&W today would be $1193 MSRP.

I like the simple looks of the older firearms without all the safety "dodads" all over it and warnings stamped into the barrels.

Some the only way you'll ever find them is on the used market like a pair of early C-series 1851 Navy Colts new in their boxes.

I'm a NIB buyer as well. The only gun I've bought off gunbroker came broken, which wasn't disclosed in the auction. 50% of the rifles I've bought new had problems within 500 rounds and had to be sent in for warranty service. I enjoy having that warranty safety net so that it's little hassle if something goes wrong which isn't always there on something bought used.

The price spread between new and used is often so narrow (if there is a spread) that it makes no sense to go used.

Its worked out well for me. Over the past few months some good deals i have got are.

STI Trojan 6" 9mm 1911. New $1,250 I paid $725 in perfect shape but it for sure has been shot

Springfield Loaded Parkerized 1911 .45. night sights... new $815, I paid $550 with only 300 rds through it

Glock 19 od green. New $525, I paid $400 and it has to be new, i don't think it was fired

Glock 23c New $525, I paid $350 and it couldnt of had more than a couple hundred through it.

Dan Wesson Cbob 2009 .45. New $950 (now 1100 ish), i paid $625. owner said it wouldnt feed properly, put a wilson 47d mag in it and its been perfect.

Springfield XDm 9mm Bi-Tone. New $650, Paid $485 with less then 500rds through it and the guy put night sights on it.

Im on the computer A LOT and i am all over for sale forums. So that helps a whole lot. Ive found some great deals i think. I won't even buy a gun unless i feel I got it at a heck of a price.

I would have to say that my pistols are new. My rifles and shotguns are more used than new, of course I have some fine old rifles. :)

A lot of what I own now was bought new, but I buy used when I can find what I want. Some of what I want will almost certainly have to be bought new later on though - like a .62 caliber flintlock NCO's fusil... I'm not gonna find one of those on the used rack!

I would consider used if it was not abused. I am 71 and have several Kimbers less than two years old.My newest is a pair of Sig P238's a Equinox for the wife and a SAS for me. In the last year I purchased two Kimber CDP II's a 45acp and a 9mm, A Kimber Eclipse Custom II, a Kimber Pro Carry II and have a Kimber Pro Raptor II on order.

Going to the range is good therapy after a round of Golf..........

i generally have to buy used since no one currently makes pre-war british style sporting rifles.
when i was young and dumb i bought NIB now that my tastes have been rifined i have to buy used , have it built or build it myself to get what i want.
i did buy a remington 799 about a year & a half ago.
as soon as i got it home i whacked it in the head and gutted it out.
its being rebuilt in the pre-war british style

Everytime I look at a used gun here is what I think about.

I've bought 1/4 of my guns as new. Then there are some arsenal reconditioned guns with a new barrel, finish etc. The rest are honestly used. I've had issues with them for sure, but fixing them is part of the fun. I like old military handguns and rifles, and those just can't be found NIB.

I've bought mostly NIB firearms. ALL of my pistols are NIB. I do this because I want the warranties, especially on anything I decide to conceal.

So if it's a new pistol, I'm one of those guys buying them. :p

All of my used firearms have either been older rifles (like my Mosin Nagant) or shotguns.

the only guns i buy used are machine guns, and that's only because the newest ones were made in '86

i'll grant you that used guns are less expensive, but the problem is that the guns i buy are the type that people like to 'bubba-ize'. mostly, AR15s and 1911s and such. i want to know where the parts came from, and i can't know that on used guns, because people are so prone to changing the configurations out on these.

if i were buying revolvers or something, yeah, i'd prob buy used.

This year I bought 6 guns
1. Ruger SR 556 (new)(not any used to buy that I could find)
2. Ruger 10/22 (new)(why buy used when new is so cheap)
3. Ruger SP101 (new)(sold shortly after because I decided I wantede a GP100)
4. Glock 17 gen 3 FDE (used)(about 100 bucks less than new)
5. Century Yugo AK47 underfolder (usedish)(I doubt this was totally new as I believe century rebuilds used ones.)
6. Mossburg 590 (new)

I fell in love with ruger this year and I want to buy more. I'm planning on buying some new and used guns sometime over the next year or so.

1. A 1911 variant x2
2. Ruger GP100 4" variety x2
3. Ruger 10/22 x2 (for different setups, I chopped my first one down to 14 1/4 and had a flash hider welded on and threw a folding stock on there)
4. Some AK variant x2 (I want to set up two more matching AK 47s)
5. Kel Tec Sub 2000 9mm in glock mags x2
6. Ruger LCP .380 semi auto
7. Glock 17 gen 3 x3 in black and x2 in FDE
8. A .308 variant (use and price will dictate which I buy AR-10, M14, etc..)
9. Remington 870
10. Remington 870 Serbu
11. Kel Tec SU16 D12 SBR

Wow that's a lot once I write it all down haha. I really only want to get the 10/22s, 1911s and GP100s new the rest I could care less used or not. My used Glock kicks major butt. I'm getting the 1911s and GP100s engraved. All of this of course will have to stretch out over a few pay checks unless I get picked up to go overseas and rake in the big bucks.
