Who Carries at home?

end of story

When we got married I told my wife there were some things that are not negotiable. Guns was the main one. I shoot, I carry open and concealed, Sometimes at home. It's never been an issue, she has never said a word. I love my wife.

I am in the crowd that as soon as I get up, my weapon is on me with an extra mag. Yes some people don't like it but oh well!

With vanishingly few exceptions, there is always at least one loaded firearm either on my person or within arm's length. While I've never been one to go looking for trouble, the admittedly-rare occasions where it's come to me anyway have been enough to cement the policy, as it were.

I comply with the law when I must go somewhere (courthouse, P.O., a school, etc.) where I am prohibited from doing so. I don't have to like it, and I don't, but would rather not risk becoming an inadvertent "test case" just to buy stamps.

I do make it a point to be as discrete about my CCW status as I possibly can. Only some selected members of my immediate family and even fewer trusted friends are aware that, whenever they see me, I will almost certainly be armed. I see no reason to advertise it, and take great care to make sure that any indications that I might be carrying are kept out of sight.

No 'sheep' are upset, no 'sheepdogs' have reason to give me a second glance, and would-be hyenas are still liable for an unpleasant surprise should it become necessary.

First of all, when family and friends pay your bills then they can ha a say about what you do in you house. period, amen, end of discusion

Second my wife carries in the house also.

Third concealed means concealed, we have custody of two grandchildren who are unaware of the presence of guns, granted i dont rough house as i am limited but hugs are not a problem.

"If you see me with pants on, you see me while I'm carrying a gun.

If you see me without my pants on, you'd better be smiling." :D:D

Now, I don't care WHO you are, that right there's funny.

Can't carry to & from work.. I carry as soon as I get home - in & out of the house. Been open carrying lately, @ first felt kind of strange about it but getting more comfortable. DW has no issues w/carrying & just passed her CCW class. I'm blessed.

Yes

I asked this question a while back and someone responded "100% of home invasions happen at home."

That was enough for me. I have little ones too and I think it's safer ON me than near me when they are concerned because it's in my control. They ask about it sometimes and I try very hard to not make a bit deal about it, but also not hide it from them. If it is a commonplace, everyday thing (and I let them see it once in a while when they ask) then they tend to forget about it.

I've had to remind them a few times in public that "we don't talk about daddy's guns around other people" to avoid some issues.

If I am dressed I always have my EDC (Sig P229SAS) holsterd on my hip. If it's saturday night and I'm vegging on teh couch in my jammies than I have my Sig P229R DAK with a surefire light in arms reach or at night it is on my headboard and my EDC is in the safe. I keep this house gun with an empty chamber on acount of my babies. I also have a few long guns (Sig 556, SAI M1a, Mossberg 590) around.-Jay

It's either on me or within reach. As an instructor I encourage students to do the "What If" exercises, and realize where you spend your time vs where you store your firearm.

If one aspires to carry consistantly, and to have fairly thorough habits...then that is what one does.

This of course will mean that one carries at home...and carries consistantly, unless in places where to do so is prohibited by Law, or other compromise.

History and ample personal testimonies have emphacised the awkwardness or embarassment occasioned by not having one's Arm handy, when some situation or sudden exigency evolves to where one wished one had.

Always.

Kids- The Little Dude was introduced to guns early & I'm always concealed. Working around the house, playing with Little Dude, etc. I just conceal it the best I can & if he sees it & has a question we stop & talk. Not a big deal until you make it one.

Wife- She knew long before we were married that I took my personal defense & firearms seriously. To me that's right up there with the condoms/tested & how many kids do you want discussions.

How did yall get your significant other past the initial "worry" about you carrying all the time?

Concealed pocket holster carry. She knows it's there but isn't constantly reminded of it. Without the concealed bit, I don't know that she would have ever come around to the idea. Even now after a number of years I don't think she'd go for open carry inside the house.

The good news is that after a year or two of this, she got over being weirded out by the idea of carry (at home or legal concealed carry outside of the home) and got her own CWP. No amount of arguing or persuading would have originally convinced her, though, she just had to gradually get used to it in order to become used to the idea.

Now it seems pretty normal to both of us, just like we always buckle up our seat belts when we drive somewhere.

I usually do. If I'm sitting around in my gym clothes after a workout I don't, but I'm not the only person in the house that usually carries so we're still covered.

Have the Springfield on me if I'm awake, and on the nightstand if I'm asleep. The only time I don't carry is on campus (university decided to declare the 2nd Amendment null and void on campus...) but I graduate tomorrow, so screw 'em:D

Everyone who knows me and doesn't like guns has learned to cope with me carrying. Granted, I am a larger individual, so concealing the weapon isn't too hard. But the ladies in my life have all learned to hug me high, unless they want to verify that I'm carrying. And if somebody drops something, they know it's not personal if I'm not the first to bend over to pick it up. But the sidearm is always with me. Because I just know the one day I don't have it on me is the one day I'm going to need it...

Go well.

I carry as close to all the time as i can. There are some minor exceptions, but generally if you see me, i'm armed. If i'm getting dressed the gun is on the bed waiting next to my glasses.

If i don't have my gun i will have a knife. If i don't have a knife there is one close at hand. They are cheaper to collect than guns and local law prevents me owning as many of those as i want, so knives it is. My Glock 26 is pretty much always on my hip. Even when playing catch, playing Barbie or riding bikes. The little one knows i carry. She even gave me advice about it, "don't take your gun to the airport they won't let you on the plane with it." she's 4. I tend to concealed carry cos then i can leave the house without worrying but I don't police it as much at home as when out, so it shows sometimes.

SO knows i carry. She know i probably won't need it, but she also knows i carry it because i love her and her daughter and would try protect them from anything. That's easier to do armed.

Besides it isn't only me I'm protecting. People here like to do car jackings when you pull into your driveway. So if she's arriving home she knows there I'm inside waiting and it isn't gonna take me two minutes to get the gun out the safe. I'm a strong believer in locking your guns up if you aren't in direct control of them, but if you need one they should be at hand. My belt is quicker than "somewhere in the room". I can pretty much always get to it. You can be cut off from your safe or your hiding place.

Yup. When out and about, I carry a 1911 with at least one reload along with a couple other odds and ends. At home, there is one either on my person or readily available. Start trouble at my home, you'll wish it had started elsewhere. More firepower available to me and a Missus who will NOT have her brood threatened.

OK 1911 Guy......

You did it.....You forced me to Google Charles "The Hammer" Martel .......He was quite a feller! Figure out how to reincarnate him and we'll run him for president. Or even better, maybe God will give us another "Hammer"....(Not trying to derail the OP....I responded earlier).

Glock 35 with extended mag sitting next to me, Bushie M4 in easy reach (basically as soon as I stand up).

I live alone.

if/when I have roommates or housemates, I continue my normal CCW at home.

the first case I read about of armed home invasion in an occupied house was sufficient.

Obviously I can't carry at work since I'm a Category IV Geneva Convention card holder (military contractor) but since I'm prior service I know where the weapons and ammo are located "in the event I need to save a servicemember's life", which is the only time I'm technically authorized to even pick up a weapon, and even then I'll still need to justify it in a military court.

At home I don't carry because it's my house and I don't feel the need to do so, although I can tell you exactly where my HD rifle sits and can find it with the lights off.

Does it count when I keep it the mag under the matress and the rifle under the bed? Heheheheheh.
