Was watching the show tonight half between what I was doing and slightly paying attention to the show. Probably get a stink started but seems that all the shooting they do in their shooting room I have rarely seen a Bull's Eye on the target. I know that most likely the sights are probably set for long range but I have yet to see anyone put a shot into the bulls eye. Was that on a different show

I'm watching it now and I do not care for it. I haven't watched it in a while, thought I'd give it another chance...at least it's about guns, but still...

I was thinking exactly what OP said...they can't hit diddly at their short indoor range.

Pretty sure a freshly built, custom weapon will need just as much, if not more "sighting in" than a commercial version. Aren't all weapons sighted before accuracy is keyed in? Having just finished watching the episode, I distinctly remember the owner telling them to get them sighted in after the test fires....

Seems like they are mostly doing function test in that room but accuarcy never seems to be high on the list of any projects.

I'm sure the precision could be better, but that small function test range isn't for target shooting. I'm sure we'd like to see neat "one hole" target results, but I doubt every gunmaker is as interested in precision as we are when they're testing a firearm.

While it is just a TV program it is also a working firearms manufacturer and the fact that they bother to use the sights to function test is good enough for that purpose.

Give 'em a little credit... on American Gun, they don't shoot at any paper targets... just stuff that, splatters, breaks or explodes.

That sounds much like my home range if you include steel and I'm ok with that.

:)

They are too busy being TV stars and blowing up stuff to worry about marksmanship.

I liked season one before fame got a hold on them. Could really have done without all the soap-opera-worthy drama between the daughter and Kris. But at least they aren't charging a kings ransom for a field grade 870 like the putzes on American Guns.

don't see them aiming really. just towards target , not at center. at 25 yards with a handgun, I just am happy to hit paper. Old single actions. Happy hitting soda can at 50yds with 22, no scope. Its just fun and plinking.

I can understand completely that the weapons have not been sighted in. However it does get my attention when one of the people there fires a handgun and the pattern is all over the board. Even with out being trued up/ sighted in it would seem that unless they are just spraying and praying at least one could shoot a semi decent group. Yes it's a TV show, I have long tired of the child like giggling and after the target explodes (like they didn't know it was coming) jumping back and covering their mouth like a teen age Jr High School girl. I could go on but it is just a TV show and for what it's worth it is better than that one in Colorado.

Even if they don't sight in their guns and it IS a function test.... if they're using the sights, all their rounds should hit the same area, whether it's the bullseye or bottom left of the target....

What show? It doesn't sound like this would be worth getting back into being a regular TV viewer.

The series is called Sons of Guns. I believe it comes on the Discovery channel.

I have never seen the show, but as mentioned I would be willing to bet they are testing newly built guns for function and nothing else.

Even if they don't sight in their guns and it IS a function test.... if they're using the sights, all their rounds should hit the same area, whether it's the bullseye or bottom left of the target...

I guess it depends on how you define "using the sights." If my shop time is worth $X per hour, and all I'm doing is making sure a gun works, I might use the sights to make sure I am somewhere on the paper and dump a magazine as fast as I can with little regard for where the shots hit the paper. I wouldn't take the time to acquire a perfect sight picture with each shot, since my time is valuable and function is all that I am concerned with.

This would be the opposite of "aim small miss small," but perfectly fine for a function test.

I love the thought of everyone of those television shows about guns. Do I watch them... NO! Do most THR members watch them? NO!!

If a vote comes down, or state delegates need support for gun control laws do folks like us give it to them? NO!!

So, with all of that said. I love the fact there are several TV shows on that non gun folks like to watch and enjoy. They now realize that guns are not just used for murder in the streets of Detriot.

What gets me is that everyone on all those shows flinches like a bunch of girl scouts. They all squeeze their eyes shut and then slap the trigger. Who needs targets?
