I own a first generation 24/7 DS in 9mm with the 5" barrel. I bought it new for $300.
I didn't own a 9mm at the time, and wanted something I could shoot the heck out of for as cheap as possible. My budget was a pretty strict $350. In the stores, the best I could do was a Ruger P95 or S&W Sigma. I'm not a fan of either. So, I went to a local gun show to see what else I could find. I was particularly looking for a Sig P2022, but didn't find one for under $399, surprisingly. I found an Arcus for $325 and the Taurus for $300, and maybe one or two others that I can't remember. When I went back around the 2nd time, the Arcus had just been sold; hence, I purchased the 24/7.
It is a very comfortable gun! The grip is nice, and the slide release is within reach of my strong thumb, which I've always liked. The recoil was almost nothing compared to the pocket .380s, .40s, and .44s that I was used to shooting. In addition, the 5"barrel and the 3-dot sights (surprisingly, I was not used to 3-dot sights at the time) makes it a fine, accurate pistol as well. I can get good groups even out to 25 yards, and make a ragged hole at 5 yards. I've never been able to do that with any other pistol. (Revolvers, yes...)
Like someone else mentioned, the trigger is strange. It isn't bad, but isn't really good, either. I'm not sure how normal the trigger style might be, but it's basically like a DA/SA striker-fired system. In the "SA" mode, the trigger goes back quite a ways (though effortlessly) before you hit the spot where the poundage is applied and the cartridge is fired. It is ultimately a light pull, at least as light as Glock, but the distance you have to travel before applying the pressure is odd at first. Obviously, it isn't a huge deal or else it wouldn't be the most accurate pistol I've ever shot. But a first impression isn't likely to be favorable.
In the first 100 rounds or so, I would have a couple of issues during each mag. I was disappointed with that at first, but figured it could be a break-in issue and kept going. Since then, I've maybe had 3-5 FTEs.
For what I bought it for, it is fantastic!!! It is fun as heck at the range, and more than reliable enough for basically a toy. As a competitor with Glock, XD, M&P, etc., it falls a little bit short. I only typically carry it when I go to the range. My Glock has been 100% perfect for at least twice as many rounds as the Taurus, so that's what I'll carry if given the choice.
