Who is fighting for these Gun Law Proposals?

Getting something passed through the legislature and getting something on the ballot are two very different things.

Ask the people of Washington about that. UBCs were blocked in the legislature for years. Supporters got it on the ballot and UBCs passed with 60% of the vote.
How many things have they gotten on the ballot?

And why should I assume that anything she gets on the ballot will automatically pass?

Seems like something you're HOPING will happen.

Let me guess....zero
None as far as I know, and if any DID get on the ballot, they failed UTTERLY.

We used to toy with Toby like a cat with a mouse.

I'll never forget the time we crashed her anti-CCW meeting in an Independence park, and outnumbered her tiny Mos Eisley cantina a good ten to one. We SO outnumbered them that the media couldn't get a shot of them without getting one of our signs in frame.

The crowning insult was when John Lott showed up on the opposite end of the park and the news people practically trampled the anti-gun cultists into the mud running to interview him.

That was at the HIGH POINT of her "influence"...

Has anyone attempted to get UBCs on the Ohio ballet and failed?

Why do I think it will pass? Polls show overwhelming support.

Let's see... they didn't even TRY.

There's "overwhelming support"... UNTIL people find out that it REALLY means REGISTRATION, the SOLE purpose of which is FACILITATION OF FUTURE CONFISCATION.

Doubtless, you're hoping we won't tell people that.

Some hopes are doomed to never be realized...

Should Ohio ever require background checks on private sales, (which I highly doubt in the near future) I would predict massive non-compliance, and it would essentially legislate the law abiding private seller into criminal status.

Of the hundreds of millions of guns in this country, the majority do not have any paperwork tying them to the current owners - mostly just those purchased new from dealers, and are still held by their original owner. Other than undercover sting operations, if a private party sells a 2nd hand gun to another individual, and does not want to pay for a dealer to do a background check, it would be totally unenforceable, and any fool who believes that black market street dealers, who are mostly already under disability are going have dealers do background checks and transfers, probably believes criminals respect gun free zones as well. Over half of my guns were purchased used, and if I sold them to my buddy, they would have to prove he purchased them after such a law was passed, which would be impossible unles sthey witnessed the exchange, unless, of course, they managed to pass gun registration first.

The support that "universal background checks" gets in polls is mostly from people who are ignorant of current laws, and what that actually means.

I would assess that as highly likely... but as pointed out, moot since there isn't going to be any sham "universal background check" in Ohio.

That makes me think you are being aweful bold in your prediction that such an effort is doomed to failure.

It only takes 183,355 signatures to get a ballot initiative on the ballot in Ohio. That takes a good deal of organization but Bloomberg has shown he can get it done. I would expect to find it UBCs the ballot in 2018 or more likely 2020.

By all means tell everyone you meet that story. Proven way to lose.

Seems more like evidence that even the freaks and fanatics know it's a loser and a waste of Bloomberg's money.

Seems pretty funny that most places DON'T have sham "universal background checks", and don't look like they will any time in the future.

As a socialist friend once said to a communist friend, "Don't start believing your own propaganda."

The anti-gun cult may want "universal background checks" followed by registration followed by confiscation as much as David Duke wants Jim Crow followed by slavery followed by genocide, but they're BOTH headed for disappointment.

Guess we won't know for a while and it probably isn't worth the slaughter of all these poor electrons for you two to go back and forth about it a few more rounds.

Let's all just agree to work against it and do what we can to STOP it. Not fuss and argue about the odds of it happening.
