The story:Three teenagers were charged Friday with burglary involving assault in the Wednesday morning Minneapolis incident that led to swordplay and the intended victims disarming the intruders and sending two to the hospital, including one without a finger.
Hossem Eau Chalbi, 18, of Minneapolis; Iman Ahmed Abdelhakim, 17, of Columbia Heights; and Mohammed Khalil, 16, of Minneapolis, each were charged with two felony counts of first degree burglary involving assault.
The younger two were charged in Hennepin County Juvenile Court by County Attorney Amy Klobuchar, who said she has filed a motion to certify the two juveniles for prosecution as adults.
Minneapolis police are still seeking a fourth robbery suspect.
Police responded to a call at 3142 Lyndale Ave. S. about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday and found two victims of the bungled robbery attempt, blood spatters on the floor, ceiling and walls from the wounded intruders, and a severed finger in the entryway.
The county attorney's office said two people checked into Hennepin County Medical Center a short time later with wounds consistent with swordplay. Chalbi had a cut on an arm consistent with a sword slash, and Khalil was missing a finger and had a cut on his abdomen.
The county attorney's office said hospital security also saw Abdelhakim at the hospital and property belonging to the robbery victims was found in a bathroom used by the suspect.
Four suspects knocked on the door of the apartment and pointed a gun at one of the victims. Both victims were ordered to the floor when the apartment was ransacked, the county attorney's office said. But they rose up and disarmed the person holding the gun and a second suspect who found a sword and began threatening the victims.
The four intruders ran from the home after their would-be victims had slashed two of them.
