I'm not talking about occasionally, but those who choose the .30-06 over the .308, .223, etc, as a main rifle for defense, hunting, plinking, or formal target shooting. I find myself at age 61 with a go-to hunting and all-purpose rifle in the form of a modified Remington ADL lefthand version in .30-06 for a hunting and "scout" rifle (wearing a 19" barrel and scout scope). My other "main" rifle is a Winchester Garand that I talked my dad into getting when the CMP had an offer for WWII vets to acquire one. He has since passed away, and I use that at the range, and occasionally going to Garand matches. I used to have an Bushmaster AR, but hardly ever shot it, and sold it to a friend. So, the .30-06 has ended up being a mainline cartridge for my rifles. Anyone else out there an -06 fan?

My deer rifle is a Winchester M1917 that my great-grandfather sporterized (beautifully, I'd say). My two other most-shot rifles are my 1953 Springfield Garand and a 1944 M-1 Carbine. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

The cartridge has soul. Now that I've gotten into reloading, the range of possibilities has opened up substantially.

I guess I'm a fan, with an M1, M1903A3, and 700BDL. But I also have many others in many calibers - Enfields, Mosins, M1 Carbines, K31's, AR, Winchester, etc. I love them all, but my '06's are just for funsies. If TEOTWAWKI happens though, I'd press them into service. For deer, I like my Winnie. For HD, I keep an M1 Carbine handy.

I hunt with a whole gang of them.I'm in the minority with a .243.

i have a win m70 extreme weather in '06 that i love. it's a hunting rifle, as i have other for pure target and defensive use. however i still shoot it rather often from field positions at random yardages.

I'm currently using a .30-06 for High Power Hunter Class Metallic Silhouette competition. After 10 rounds of practice and 40 rounds of competition it has a tendency to leave me with a headache. I love the gun (Tikka Hunter) and the .30-06 is easy to load for and shoots great groups. I just wish I could shoot off hand half as well as the gun can shoot groups!

Great cartridge, great history, great shooter.

Remington 03A3
SA M1 Garand

I think that is about it for 30-06, there might be another one I can't recall.

Don't hunt much anymore but the 03A3 and Garand make plenty of range trips. Part of this winter has been spent cleaning all the old buckets of 30-06 casings I have.

Anyway, yes, I still actively shoot 30-06.

Sporterized RIA 1903.
Springfield 1903 w/ a C-Stock

Both get shot often. The RIA is one of my primary hunting guns.

Go to the National Matches at Camp Perry, or any other big HiPower match and see how many competitors are still shooting the '06 and shooting it damn well. You''l be pleasantly surprised, especially in long range events.

I don't get to shoot the '06 as much as I'd like, but I do love the ol' warhorse, especially in the Garand

toss me in for the hunting category...

shotgun in the thick stuff, but 30-06 on all my open areas via a Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather SS

I shoot it all the time for hunting in either my Sako AIII full stocked rifle or a HK SLB 2000K semi auto. As a matter of fact the last 2 deer I shot in December were with the HK.

Grew up on 06, love them, somehow in a fit of stupidity I switched to a 270 back in 84, still have it and its my primary long range gun. But i have never got over the urge for another 06

Remington 742 4 digit serial number. Remington Sportsman 78, Purchased new in 1986. Have shot 3/4 inch groups, not every time. All handloads. Hornady 165 gr flat base or boattails.

Sixty years old here, and use my .30-06 Smith & Wesson i-bolt to put meat on the table year after year. After I'm assured of venison, however, I like to go after my second deer with another caliber, like the .243 Remington 700, Winchester 94 (30/30), or .50 caliber round ball in a black powder rifle.
But when I absolutely positively need to get a deer, .30-06 all the way!

Love the '06. Does all I need, except fit in AK mags.

I tend to use it more than anything else for hunting, and it's what I shoot when I'm shooting bolt guns.

I absolutely love my .06 and use it for all kinds of trigger time.

Reloading makes it a convenient, viable option for targets, varmints or large game.

An Atlas bi-pod and a good glass makes it fun for long distance too.
