Steve: I agree with you, you'll notice I said "arguably". I am not too sure the reduced is easier but there are those who swear they are. I think it all depends on the wind/mirage conditions at that particular time and place at the longer range.

Right on! Lots of folks don't realize the accuracy obtainable with iron sights. I have a 3" spotter disc that I put 14 shots into at 600 yards (unsupported prone except for sling) with my 30-06 bolt gun w/iron sights. The last shot took the spindle out and hurt overall score due to the fact that conditions changed while they were replacing the target center.
