Why did you choose the CCW you have now?

I carry an SP101 snubby in .357 mag. It's compact and manageable. I have read that most civilian firefights average 2-3 shots.

I don't need quick reload capability. I traded in a Star 9mm for this beast. I don't concern myself with a safety or if a round is chambered. When Joe Badguy shows up, I rely on my years of practice and training.

This rig gives me ample knockdown capability. I have never had a misfire. The revolver handle and holster allow me to get on it quickly when SHTF.

Kimber SIS Pro in Comp Tac C-TAC (IWB), extra mag on weakside. More available rounds, I can reload faster than the 340PD J-frame. Still carry the SW on very hot days when I'm going to sweat a lot.

For me it is never the same gun from day to day. It depends on how I am going to be carrying and what type of clothing I'll be wearing.

I generally pack an older (1990) S&W M659.

1. It was inexpensive to buy. I got it surplus from the Atlanta PD for $232.

2. I like the S&W design, it feels good in my hand, and I have confidence in the gun.

3. Stainless. I hate the look of stainless guns but it is the most practical material for a carry gun.

4. I wanted the 14 round capacity so I don't need to carry a reload. I have my reasons for this.

5. Because I find the gun so ugly, this is the one gun I own that is purely a tool. If lost, stolen or damaged I shed no tears over it.

Everything is a balance. For me the best balance of accuracy, reliability, capacity and concealibility is the CZ-75D PCR.

I am a 1911 guy. I have a lot of confidence in the .45 acp cartridge and the guns are very easy to carry (thin and flat).
When I went looking for a carry gun, I found the Kimber Eclipse Ultra (3 inch barrel) to fit my requirements perfectly. It's all steel and chambered in 45. It is also quite small, not much bigger than most .380 autos. I carry it in a Del Fatti IWB.

I also have a Springfield Champion that I have bobtailed. This is an all stainless 45 with a 4 inch barrel. I carry it in a Del Fatti OWB pancake.

Yes, the steel guns are a lot heavier than plastic or aluminum. The up side is that the additional weight makes them very easy to shoot well and quite durable. For me, the benefits outweigh the additional weight.

The little Kimber is so easy to carry that I don't even notice it. The Springer also carries well but since I holster it outside my pants, it is reserved for winter and/or open carry.

Both guns are absolutely reliable and quite accurate.

Bill.

GLOCK...because everything else is crap!! -LOL

Nah I'm poking fun...I'm a Glock or 1911 guy pretty exclusively (though I've owned and carried about everything over the years those are what I always return to)

Bottom line is most 1911's are too heavy and/ or need a lot of work/parts to get to where I'm happy with them (last one 40+hours of labor as I recall-LOL) But it is a great gun and after 2500+ rounds still is. There is nothing I enjoy shooting more than a good 1911. I carried it for about 16 months...

Then I played with an XD9 for a while...excellent shooting gun. I don't care for the construction in some ways but overall it was a joy to shoot and very accurate and reliable (surprisingly so in fact) Probably the best "new" gun to come along in years. The finish still sucks though and after about 6 months of daily carry/holster wear I began to have to "chase rust" ...of course in all fairness this is summer in AL. My Kimber did the same thing and it wasn't a cheap gun either. I'd get their nickel/SS slide version next time if I bought another XD.

In the end I went back to GLOCK (yet again) and carry a G22 (17 is also a favorite) They aint fancy but they work well...they don't rust...and the only thing they need is better sights (prefferably Trijicon) to be "good to go"

I believe this is my 3rd G22 owned a couple 23's a 19 a 17 a 21(and I think I'm forgetting a couple-LOL) I find I don't shoot the sub-compact GLOCK's worth beans...the 19/23 carrys well but I need the full sized grip so the 17/22/21 (and now 21SF) are favorites of mine. I'm a big guy with big hands...I work in a pawn & gun shop so I carry all the time and concealment is not a big issue but in a proper pancake holster they hide well enough. It's hard to beat a good GLOCK for the money and utillity if you really use and beat up your CCW's

That being said a 1911 is a joy to shoot above all else in my book. There is probably nothing else I shoot beter and no round I trust more...but then I trust ANY GLOCK as much or more. My expirience is either one is dang fine for deffensive use...it's easier to reccomend GLOCK because you can buy a "good one" anywhere. 1911's need some TLC usually to get there. But the time and effort are of course "greatly rewarded" in what you have at the end of all that :D

I chose the S&W M&P .40 compact. It felt great in my hand, is excellently constructed, and had a rebate and 2 extra mags. Accessories are easy to find for it (mine is outfitted with a CTC) and it is backed by a lifetime warranty. It has been wonderfully reliable for me, and I love it more everytime I shoot it.

BTW, I selected the .40 because it has better terminal performance than the 9mm, but still provides higher capacity mags than the .45 in a compact magazine. To me, it was the perfect compromise between size and performance.

I have two main carry guns:

1. Seecamp 32 because it is so discreet and dissapears nicely in my pocket. This is my formal and always gun.

2. Kahr MK40 Elite because it is a potent gun in such a small consealable package.

I preffer my carry guns in stainless steel and well built for the same reason I like preffer Swiss watch over the plastic timex.

I do carry Kel-Tec P-3AT when biking and XD45 when hiking and camping.

Summer, Winter, Spring and Fall I pack a Taurus Mil Pro 45acp. Small, light, eleven rounds of 185gr Barnes solid copper flying ash trays coming out of that short barrel at over 1000fps. It is the newer model with "single/double" action. I carry it with a round in the chamber and ten in the magazine. I've also got a Taurus model 745 which is the same gun with an even smaller grip and a six round magazine. I thought it would replace the Mil Pro but the grip is too small and I can't manage it as well in double taps with full power +P loads like the Barnes 185gr mentioned above.

I've carried a variety of scaled down guns, mostly a 442 .38 but also a G26 and G36 as well as a Kimber compact 1911. I even carry a Beretta 950 .25. One thing I've learned in carrying on and off for over 30 years is to carry the smallest gun I can shoot and conceal well. It ususally is the 442 or Beretta.

In coming across a Kahr PM9 recently, I bought it because if it proves to be reliable and I shoot it well, it is the perfect carry weapon for me balancing cartridge size, capacity, and physical size. I had the dealer send it in to Kahr for some updates as it was an unsold VB serial number, mfg in late 2004. I carried it empty in my pocket for a day to see how it carried (it was unloaded and in my pocket without a pocket holster). I think it's a potential winner for an experienced shooter.

I have two :

1st: Ruger LCP which allows me to always have a gun. I can wear it with shorts and t-shirt in the hot summer months with no bother and when i'm laying around the house (usually what i'm doing) it keeps on my boxer shorts with an UM iwb holster. Load it with FMJ for penetration and practice enough with it to where your proffecient.

2nd: Glock 26 which allows me to carry with minimul weight and size to worry about yet I'm still very accurate to 50 yrds with it. I load it with 127 gr +p+ rangers and am quite comfortable that if I put the round where it has to go it will produce a one shot stop. Best part is I just drop a mag and insert a 19 with grip sleeve and my home defense gun is the same.

I carry a P2000.

I went through several guns before settling on it, ruling the others out due to reliability, weight, and a general feeling that the pistol wasn't for me.
The pistol I settled on is the right weight, with the right feel. I like that there's no manual safety lever and that it's DA/SA. It continues to be 100% reliable after a few years and a few thousand rounds.

I started out CCW a Kahr P9. Great weapon that I had 100% confidence in. However, I wanted a hammer fired weapon vs. striker fired. Just a personal preference. I like the opportunity for a 2nd strike. Might never need it, but I wanted it to be there. I traded for a CZ P-01. It's not as concealable, but it does the trick. It also doubles my rounds on tap. I don't really need the rail, but it's still an outstanding handgun.

I've carried a G-27 for several years . Recently I bought a G-30 to carry. I still go back to the G-27 if I'm going to have it for any long period of time for comfort.
The size and dependablilty of the Glocks is why I went to the G-27 in the first place.

just gotta go withmy PM9. It is my always gun.. Pocketable no less..

I have two I carry. A Glock 27, which I wear when I can easily conceal it and have time to holster up. In the summer, when shorts and t-shirts are the UOTD, I pocket carry a Beretta 3032 Tomcat. It is light, and easy to conceal. I realize it is not high power, but I can put 16 rounds (2 mags) into pie plate consistently at 7 yards. If I put a few rounds into a BG's pieplate, I don't think he will question the caliber of the rounds.

Like many here, I have 2.

The Kel-Tec P3AT is the always gun - there's no excuse to not carry it. It can be concealed in anything short of swimwear - heck, could even do it there, but the pool'd mess up the gun. .380 will do. So, it was picked for convenience of carry, concealability, and reasonable caliber.

Preferred is a Smith and Wesson 3913. Reliable, accurate, comfortable to carry, 9mm is certainly enough power, and the ammo is affordable for practice. It conceals well in my VM2, at shoots well, and it's stainless, so the finish is tough.

Went from Glock 23 to 1911 to snub S&W (several) to S&W 325 to G-19 (and I missed a few in there somewere).

Since I got my Kahr PM9, I'm no longer searching.

Sure, I bought a KT P3AT but don't carry it--it's only a bit smaller and lighter, but the weaker cartridge and poorer shoot-ability (accuracy, reliabiliy, trigger) make it a no-brainer. The P3AT will be sold soon.

In winter (about three months per year) I carry a Kahr P45 or 3" 1911.

I carry the G26 in warm weather, and the G19 in fall/winter. I am a Glock man. They are the pistols I fell in love with. Glock's reputation speaks for itself.

Kimber Tactical Ultra II my perferred carry weapon using a IWB Comp-Tac MTAC holster,

Glock 26 in a pocketholster when I'm in a hurry or hot outside

I have three. Keltec P32 when I dress a certain way and really need to conceal, Kahr PM9 and sometimes I just gotta carry my Walther PPK/S...

I have 3 that I carry:

First, a S&W 340PD J-frame .38/.357 - lightweight, powerful, reliable. Best for pocket carry. I have Crimson Trace laser grips installed on this.

Second, a SIG 229 .40S&W - I love SIG's!, what more is there to say? This is my primary CCW handgun.

Third, a Glock Model 30 .45ACP - although I don't really like Glocks, I love the Model 30! While being a bit thick for a CCW handgun, it is hard to argue with something that is about the size of my hand and still holds 10 rounds of .45ACP.
