Why do gun-related internet sites slow down this time of year?

There's been a pattern that hasn't changed since Al Gore invented the internet: come May or so, traffic to gun-related sites slows down, and doesn't return to the prior level until about September or so.

I've never understood this. People don't stop shooting from May through August, do they? Do they stop buying guns?

I realize that people take vacations, but in May?

If anyone has a perspective on this, I'd be interested in hearing it.

I've noticed this, too--but I just attribute it to the gunny computer-literates going outside to have fun with guns.

I'll bet an analysis would find a strong correlation with latitude...e.g., those of us with a Winter that puts us inside use our computers more from December through April.

A second correlation may well be with computer-literate gunnys and school--or at least, school-year related. Not all avid gunny posters are young or in school, but it's probably more than we realize.

It's spring! The sun is out, the snow is melting, time to get out and do the honeydo's in the yard, go fishing, go prairie dogging, go do outdoor things instead of molting in front of the computer!!:) Now, off to the yard, the honeydo's await me!!:scrutiny:

I can't give you an honest answer on this subject but yes, many go on vacations, here in Cody, Wyoming the tourists are already here. many are getting ready for their kids highschool graduations as well as college and Many who live in cold country are now out enjoying the sunshine and working in their yards. I think the last one has a lot to do with it also. Anyway, these are only my ideas on the subject but what do I know?

Legislative session over? Here everyone in Md was all riled up about a CCW bill. This failed and now traffic slowed down on Mdshooters.com.

I don't sit on the internet and post on forums nearly as much in the spring, summer, fall than in the winter.

If I had to guess, I'd say those three seasons couldn't compare to my post count on other forums through the winter.

well perhaps it has some correlation to the large number of schools closing down for the summer and the fact lots of 13-18 year olds are long time and high use members of gun forums?

Everyone has received, and spent, their tax refunds/prole bonuses. No fun looking at stuff when the toy budget is zero. They will return when they have a use for the toys they just bought...or when refund season rolls around again.

It is partly becasue of summer, partly because of school letting out, and so, the school goer's (and parents, going on vacation) go outside to have fun, rather than sit on their comuter so much. It is funny, you think activity would increase because of no school, but in fact, it does not...

Springtime, I'll be out gardening or working around the place somewhere. Today I watered about eight rows and planted a couple, besides mowing the lawn and burning some weeds. Yesterday I burned a brush pile and got the old John Deere running and limbered up for hayrides this summer.

The trim needs painting and we're planning a July birthday party for my mom, so the place needs spiffed up. We seldom have a "nothing to do" weekend between April and October.

I check in here from time to time, but not nearly as often as in the wintertime.

cuz its beautiful outside, and theres stuff to do bro! People to meet, places to go, ladies to... uhh... you get the point :)

Thanks for the replies. I've noticed that weekend traffic is always less, and that the highest traffic times are in the middle of the afternoon. I guess that's because so many people are busy at work. ;) That would also explain why those people aren't on the internet as much when they have days off.

I belong to numerous internet forums, including home theater, photography, audiophile/music, and automobile forums, and they all have the exact same pattern that you describe.

During a normal year, January and February sales slow down due to lag from Christmas. Come May-June area, folks have made their purchases and are licking their wounds. Like you said, things pick up in August and afterward due to hunting season approaching and cooler weather which is more pleasant to shoot in.

This year is different because you throw in a political element into the mix along with the shortage of ammunition and some firearms. So, I don't know if the lag will be as much as in previous years.

They all do that. I'm a member of several other forums (mostly automotive related) and the only one that picks up in the spring is the local racing forum. The rest all slow down - because people can get outside and do stuff instead of staying inside on the computer....

I think you have it backwards. Traffic goes up in September until later Spring because more people stay inside during those months.
