Why do I keep wanting to buy a 10mm?

So out of a short barrel (like 3" or less) is there still a big power difference between .40 and 10mm?

I have this silly notion of trying to build a subcompact in 10mm ... either with a .40 Kimber Ultracarry or maybe even my Steyr S40. But if I'm not going to gain much it wouldn't be worth it.

I would assume so. Even a snubby .357 Magnum has a considerable ballistic edge over a snubby .38 Special.

The problem would be getting a 3" 10mm gun to run reliably. You couldn't convert the Steyr to 10mm, by the way.

Glock 29, easy. ;)

Not exactly sub compact ... if they made a single stack (like the G36) then maybe.

I've seriously thought about a G29, but as fat as it is I would have an easier time concealing a full size Delta Elite :p

Thats also one of the reasons I've stayed away from the Witness 10mm compact.

I would like to see something in a Kimber UltraCarry size 1911 style gun chambered in 10mm.

I found a LNIB Delta Elite on the internet for $700. After a little searching it appears that $700 is on the low-end of the common price range for Deltas. I was saddened they run that much, but I went ahead and made the purchase anyway. I guess I probably could have shopped around and maybe saved a few bucks, but given my past experience, I think it was probably worthwhile to pay a few extra dollars to take the path of least resistance.

Next will be the long wait in line for the services of a top-notch gunsmith :)

I fell in love with the 10mm last year. I'm stuck in CA so 10mm choices are few and far between. I'm still looking for that perfect Delta elite in CA which seems to be right next to the native unicorns of these parts. I'm not a big glock fan myself but I bought a g20 last year and it's my favorite s pistol in the safe right now. I say try to shoot one before dismissing the glocks all together. Good luck and let us know what you pick up.

10mm

Brad, you might consider one of these for 10mm in a 1911 package.

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a 10mm, and I noticed that there are two 1911 10's at a local store, but both are pretty expensive. They have one of the current limited run SS Kimbers, I think they are asking $900 for it. And they have an STI 2011, I think its a "Edge", and they're asking $1,900 for that one. I was actually tempted by the STI, but after firing some 45acp +P from my Wilson KZ-45, I don't think I need to go hotter than that. Sometimes the 10's call to me, but so far I've resisted.

I have the same itch, for no particular reason. I can't think of any use I have for a 10mm. What I want is a ported Glock 20 with high caps. Talk about some walking around firepower!
