If i wanted to stop someone cold from comming any further into my house after he has entered unlawfully, i cant think of anything more effective then a 3 round burst from an AR with good heavy HP ammo. 12gauge 00 buckshot and a good 7.62 comes close but id still prefer the 3 rnd burst especially for CQB in the dark or tuff targets with winter clothing.

I know anything that fires more then 1 bullet with each pull of the trigger is defined as an automatic but why cant they make this an exception? :(

It's not illegal. It is considered to be the same as full-auto. If your state permits full-auto, you can own a 3-shot burst firing weapon. This isn't going to be cheap at all, and it will take some time, but you can own one. After all you go through_and spend_to get one, I doubt you'll be wanting to use it for home defense.

Because the government hates us and doesn't want us to have fun toys without paying them $200, giving them fingerprints, a background check, and waiting. Not to mention it has to have been registered before 1986. It's legal, just like it's legal to drive an 18 wheeler to work everyday. The act itself isn't illegal, but the process and costs make it out of the reach of most of us.

Once again, these laws have very little to do with preventing crime.

In 1934 they were scared of guys like John Dillinger, so they passed all these laws to feel better.

Ask the North Hollywood bank robbers how much that did to stop them.......

What Joe said.

It's not illegal, provided you've got the necessary tax stamps from the government.

However, do you really want your very expensive NFA firearm sitting in a government evidence locker for who knows how long? And then, depending on the court, risk having it destroyed at the whim of the judge? Or turned over to the police for their use (again, at the discreption of the judge in some locals)?

They were more afraid of the Bonus Army that had marched on Washington, D.C. and the thousands of WW I veterans that knew how to use automatic firearms; so much so they unleashed the Army and everyone's hero (later that is) Douglas MacArthur to break up the "illegal" assembly. Dillinger and his ilk had little to do with the 1934 NFA.

Ok i guess i should have phrased the question differently. Either way, that kinda answers my question.

So hypathetically, if you owned 2 AR's, one being 3 rnd burst capable, and could swap the barrels within a few minutes. Wouldnt it be possible to have 1 AR fire 3 rnd burst, legally or illegally, solely for the purpose of defending the homestead and if the odd chance that someone did try to break in and you fired a 3 round burst into him, you could then quickly swap the barrels on the 2 ARs as you wait for the police? :D Sure you lose a nice AR but you get to keep the nicer one!

Im so bad. lol

Please provide a link to a credible source if you will. I understand those protesters were unarmed, and very few people owned full automatic weapons to start with. Money was hard to come by back then. Also, the early 30's was the hight of the mobs power, and they made certain things infamous.

Sure. You could swap them. You'd just be an extreme idiot for doing so. And you're no so bright for asking that, either.

Ya, just swap the barrels. Hell, swap the whole upper. CMT sells uppers with the full auto bolt carriers, and they are legal to buy via mail. Let me know how good it fires, and how many rounds come out with each pull of the trigger.

uh huh ok:banghead:

I'm still trying to figure out why 3 55-62 gr .223 cal JHP's with one pull of the trigger supposedly trumps 9 .33 cal 56.3 gr 00 buckshot with one pull of the trigger.

Especially when you consider that the second is easily attainable without a $200.00 tax stamp and thousands spent on a pre-86 registered lower.

Yeah, you really think tampering with evidence is such a good idea after a SD shooting? Again I'm  That would immediately call into question whatever happened right before in your home, whether it was initially justified or not. I hear the food in prison isn't so bad anymore. I hear the shower conditions haven't improved much though........

I personally prefer the 9 round burst option, but hey that's me........:)

If you want to get really funky there's the 3" shells with 15 pellets or the 3.5" with 18. Now there's a burst fire option for ya. :D

No, not bad- stupid. Why would you want to advocate doing something illegal- especially on a medium that is available for the whole world to see?
You are stating that you would tamper with evidence- something that would raise red flags among all who would investigate this incident, and thereby throw you from homeowner defending his castle to something that looks a lot more sinister.

Since you did say legally or illegally, I assume this is all hypothetical and I in NO way suggest playing with unregistered NFA weapons.

IIRC as long as the lower is registered you can have as many uppers as you want for it. As for willfully misrepresenting what happened to the police, you need to think long and hard about the consequences of such an action. No gun is worth your morals or spending time in jail for lying to the cops.

Your post is made of Grade-A Farm Fresh Failure.

Normally I'd take the time to explain why, but I'm quite convinced the explanation would be completely ignored, and I could better use the time to go do something constructive, like repeatedly bashing my head into a brick wall.
