I always thought the county Sheriff could issue a permit to someone under 21, but he didn't have to. At least that's what our local Sheriff told me when I was 20, he did later go to jail for some things he was doing while in office.

Is there something im missing or is this one of those laws that will never make sense?

The latter.

The older you get, the more you will come to understand, there are a lot of really stupid folks that not only get elected to office, to come up with laws that make no sense in the first place, they keep getting re-elected .

Childhood has been greatly extended within the last half century or so. Look back in your own family tree and you will see that great-grandma was maried and having babies at 15 or 16.

That was a fact known to my parents as I was growing up. I remember being told that they didn't believe in the concept of "teenager" and didn't understand it until later in life. They treated me like a child when I was such and like an adult once adolescence kicked in. I was expected to be responsible as an adult even though society expected nothing but the opposite from my age group. Treat people like children and that's what they will be. At 18, if a person doesn't know to act like an adult it's not due to age and probably due to upbringing.

"im not scared of a grizzly, either i die and my python wasnt enough"

it's not Grizz I am worried about, friend, even though we would miss you if you were not still around
but clerks at quickie stop marts shouldn't ought to die because young and brave don't care

I think 99% of all guns laws are stupid also
but I know what Cassandra's daddy is talking about, and you obviously don't know what he is talking about
laws, right or wrong, are not created for exceptional you, they are created for the all, because there are too many of us, and too few of exceptional you

and because way, way too many exceptional people think they should be the exception

and i gotta own up when i was 18 to 21 i thought I was perfectly fine to carry. heck i thought it from when i was 14. looking back from a couple decades i was mistaken in my case anyway. there was one amongst us who was extremely mature and mighta been qualified and yet i saw him one night shoot out a car window after a beer or 12. experience can only be gotten one way

yeah, everybody has to do some pukin' in the parkin' lot, one way or the other
I make just as many mistakes as ever I did
but I make 'em a lot s-l-o-w-er now ;)

Why at 21? Besides having to start somewhere, checkout the news about Notre Dame about the arrests last night 7-18-20. Yup thats our collage kids, our future leaders.

FWIW, its NOT 21 EVERYWHERE.....I remember getting my first carry permit from my county sheriff days after my 18th birthday....was actually issued that permit with fewer issues than when I got it reinstated years later after a lapse.... ANd yet, South Dakota doesn't have an abundance of permit holders between the ages of 18 and 21 comitting all sorts of illegal acts while armed, and it really hasn't been an issue since SD began issuing permits to 18 yr olds....
