Why no affordable competitors to the Hi-Point and Kel-Tec pistol caliber carbines?

The pistol round can be more easily suppressed and easier to get reliability out of a short gun than any of the rifle rounds.

Compared to, say, .45 ACP in a PCC it's downside is cost/availability. Upside is exemplary range and terminal performance with good supersonic ammo and the ability to reliably run both supersonic and subsonic in the same gun with no changes.

Works great in barrels at least as short as 8"

I think that if I were making this kind of stock today I would mold it out of a similar thermoplastic sheet material like Kydex, likely attached to a metal hinge and latch for solid lock up. A soft polymer insert could go over and on the grip area to fill in the hole there and make it more comfortable and maybe hard polycarbonate butt plate.

Not Hi Point prices, but this is pretty tempting with 5 magazines.
