The real question I think is why not more pump rifles
Why weren't lever action shotguns more popular?

Great discussion, sometimes you just have to go back 50 to 100 years and realize why people did at the time of conception. Now I got to get in gear and get that Norinco and a nice used 9410. I just hope the door will close on one of the safes.

The Norchester 87 or 97 is a rough, gritty, finger hurting gun until you get it back from Lassiter or the like. You guys are talking cowboy guns as in SASS.
An old Winchester 97 can be made very smooth. First is to take some of the bend out of the hammer spring. On any lever or pump gun, the hammer is generally the reason for exertion other than bearing surfaces. Remember, an action job is creting a 100 years of wear in a day

I can take my 1873 by the barrel and stock, holding it horizontal, and by pushing it down and back up it will almost cock itself. Action job. Hope you enjoy.
