I recently inherited a M94 Classic Carbine from the late 60's. I have found two problems that may actually be one problem.

1st: Sometimes, when the action is closed, the ejector is in the up position and prohibits loading.

2nd: While cycling rounds, the magazine dumps under the ejector and I have to drop the bottom of the gun out to unload.

I've also noticed that I can load 7 rounds into the magazine when the books say 5 round capacity.

Any ideas on what the problem is?
Is there anywhere to get a takedown manual?

Thanks.

I think you are talking about the cartridge lifter. When the lever is pulled down the lifter goes down to let the magazine feed another caretridge onto it and when the lever is raised it lifts the cartridge up to be pushed into the chamber by the bolt. There is a spring under the lifter and if worn, the lifter can go out of time. It can be filed and stoned back to the correct shape if not too worn. May need a good cleaning. There are videos and dvd's available. I don't know if mentioning these companies is allowed on the forum. Do a search on winchester 94 and you will surely find them. Almost forgot. There is a pin under the magazine to block rounds from feeding under the lifter when the up position. Check out Lever guns forum. Later, Iron bottom.

I agree, a good cleaning would be the first start.

I also thought that my 94 carbine can take 7 rounds in the tube but I would have to check. I am sure it is more than 5, but it could be 6 and 1 in the chamber.

Hit the levergun forum. They have a lot of good folks over there who may be able to help out.

Good luck.

Iron Mike, you are correct, it is the lifter. I don't know why I said ejector.

I will try the levergun forums if I can find them.

Thanks.
