i picked up this 1955 model 12 in 12ga with a 30 inch full choke barrel converted into a trap gun,by adding a rib with new wood with weight added in the butt stock along with a total reblue,a very good job. i hope it shoots as good as it looks. eastbank.

I hope so too.

Many of those old Model 12 Trap guns have fired so many thousand rounds all the headspace adjustment is used up, and the bolt locking recess in the top of the receiver is peened out like a tenderized flank steak.

But on the bright side?
They still look good on the outside!!

i took it apart before i bought it and the inards are in ex condition. in fact it looks like it was hardly used at all after the conversion. i wonder if it may have been cheaper to sell the shotgun and just buy a trap model than to have all the work done to this shotgun. eastbank.

My wife has a model 12 16ga that she has tried to use for trap. It patterns well and she does very well with it for the first fifteen shells or so. It has a solid rib and it gets hot - so hot it has a significant mirage that interferes with hits.

I didn't believe this but I had the same problem when I tried it.

the ventalated rib may lessen that to a degree also i noticed the rib has a little movement for and aft, like a floating rib. if it don,t rain tonight i,ll shoot a round of trap with it. eastbank.
