I recently aquired a Win. mod. 70 in .300WSM. It is a Wally World special shoots great & has the right feel, but even with daily cleaning & oiling I get rust in the bore. I do live & hunt in Western WA so our wes weather does contribute to the problem but I have never had a gun with this much rust trouble. I have tried multiple different lubes/cleaners/rust preventers but nothing is working. I don't want to give up on the gun but I cannot have it rusting like this. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Kent

That's bizarre. Never heard of that unless someone shot corrosive ammo in a gun. Since that is a new caliber, you can count that possibility out. Usually, just a thin layer of any kind of preservative will prevent any rust from forming. If it persists, you might want to send it in for warranty service. Might need a new barrel. Might be something wrong with the steel.

It could very well be the steel like a "Made in China" piece of crap versus the Chrome - Moly alloy that it should be.
Do you have this problem with any of your other firearms?
Respectfully, Zeke

I use FP-10. It's a CLP that conditions the bore and makes cleaning easier. That doesn't mean there isn't something wrong with the steel. The only problem my old Win M-70 had was copper fouling. But that only made the rifle affordable and was easily fixed.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I have never had this kind of corosion issue before with any firearm. This is my first year hunting with modern firearm, usually I hunt muzzle loader no stainless & I have never had to clean rust out of a bore at the end of a day's hunt when I did not fire a shot. I will be contacting Winchester to see if they have any suggestions.
Thanks

Are you sure its rust, and not copper fouling?
The reason I mentioned copper fouling was that the barrel throat looked awful and the rifle was sold as one needing a new barrel. A little Sweet's 7.62 to remove the copper, followed by JB's Bore paste to polish the tube and the barrel was in great shape. It groups about what you'd expect for a non-bedded, Pre-64 .308 Featherweight. I didn't asked the sellers what they thought was wrong, maybe they thought it was corrosion, but the flakey look was familiar to me.
