Winchester White Box vs. UMC 9mm FMJ

My Dad's Star M43 9mm does not like UMC AT ALL. Grouped roughly 4 times worse than my cheapest reloads. 9" groups at 10 yards were typical where 2" groups were the norm with WWB and my reloads.

From a reloader's perspective, much of the UMC brass is thin around the mouth and causes problems with getting enough tension on a bullet to prevent set-back. I haven't had as big of issues with the 9 and 45 as much as I have with 40. I just donate any R-P 40 brass I happen to find to the bucket at the local range.

The Rem UMC is the cheapest and most available in my area, although I've used both with no problems. I've read threads in other forums where many though the Rem UMC was dirty but it's always worked fine for me. Actually I'm not sure what many people mean by dirty. Anytime you shoot a handgun for 30 to 50 rds or more, you're going to have soot and residue dammit, I don't care what kind of ammo you use. I prefer the Win brass for reloading 9MM but in the .45ACP the Rem brass works just fine and lasts, and lasts, and lasts------.

My 2 cents - go with Federal American Eagle. I avoid WWB at all costs due to FTF issues I've experienced plus how dirty it is. I haven't shot a ton of the UMC stuff mainly because it wouldn't fit (a little to long) in my Sig P245 mags. I think it's okay otherwise.

I've shot 1500 rounds of UMC through my Baby Eagle without a single malfunction. Accurate and a little bit dirtier than WWB in my gun. No complaints.
