Has anyone got any experience with this stuff? Particularly the .45ACP JHP stuff? It seems like a bargain, but if its crap I don't really want to bother with it. Do the hollow points expand well?

They did good in a play-doh test i did, which was completely unscientific.

1) Golden Sabre
2) Hydra-shok/WWB looked equal
2) Gold Dot (none expanded)

Only shot those 4

The WWB 230gr JHP shoots very consistantly and accurately out of my Sig P220 and Glock 30.
The hollowpoint opening is pretty big with sharp edges. I'd imagine some guns won't feed it. If it runs good in your gun though I see no reason to believe that it wouldn't perform as designed.

There was a link awhile back to a test someone did of bulk WWB and Remington hollowpoints. All performed pretty well.

My guess is, ammo companies have enough problems with litigation and will not sell hollowpoint ammo for defense that doesn't expand reliably.

Thanks guys, thats convincing enough. I've used the WWB FMJ for plinking, and it seems to be ok, but I want something for self defense that doesn't cost a fortune.

Wow, this is a timely thread. I just went through my first ever 100 rounds of 9mm WWB. This stuff is great--no failures of any kind. Seemed pretty accurate, too.

Probably the only good reason to brave the crowds at Wal-Mart.

Went to Wally world today and while we were there I decided to but a Value pack WWB 9mm. They were all out, the guy said some dude came in and bought them all the day before. 13 of them. ??????? could have saved one for me...lol :banghead:

The sporting goods people at my local wallyworld are trained!! As soon as they see me coming, they have two boxes of W^4B on the counter waiting for me!!!

I've had no problems with it and it's super cheap at Wally World.

The biggest complaint I've seen posted on the forums is that its dirty, but I dont think it's any worse than UMC.

almost 100% of the .40 sw that i have fired has been WWB (im guessing over 1000 of them). never a hiccup. thats from a P99 BTW. almost exclusively from wally world, cause its cheap.

My carry ammo for my Kimber is WWB .45 ACP JHP. Accurate and reliable.

I shoot 50-100 rounds of WWB .40 from a G22 every week and have never had a failure .

I tend to burn through a bit more of it in 9mm and usually buy ~ 6 boxes a month or snap up a case when they've got one . It has been flawless in Smith and Wessons , has had 1 FTE in a SIG P239 and WOULD NOT WORK in a Beretta 9000S initially but it seems as though they've made some changes and it now works just fine . I almost feel guilty for passing 3 gunshops to buy it from WalMart but when it is that much cheaper I can't feel bad . I wish they made , or at least had available in my neck of the woods if it does exist , WWB .357SIG and .380ACP .

I haven't run any expansion/penetration test with the WWB HP stuff, but it feeds & functions just fine in all my .45ACP guns.

And at around $17/50, instead of the $18-$20/20-25 of the "Premium" rounds, works for me! A bit smokier than that Golden Sabre or Gold Dot ammo, but I can deal with that.

The FMJ stuff @ $20/100 is what I use for range/general shooting/plinking fodder.

I know it's not .45ACP but I have shot about 600 rounds of the 130 grain FMJ .38 rounds thru two different Ruger revolvers. Never any trouble and the price is right for the 100 round value packs.

I shoot a lot of WWB 9mm. If you have an Academy Sporting Goods in your area, check out their price . . . usually less than Wally World.

Evan marshall tested the WalMart generic ammo, and said it performed very well, quite good for self defense. I carry the Remington 115gr generic JHP in my PO1, and it works just fine - lotsa muzzle flash, though!

I shoot WWB almost exclusively and have been very happy with it. I do not agree that it's as dirty as UMC - it runs cleaner than that.

I accidentally bought a few boxes of WWB JHP once. I never noticed a difference - they fed fine and sufficiently killed the paper and steel.

Plinking and Varminting

I use WWB .45 ACP for plinking, have never had a problem. It also took me over a year to get a handload for my varmint rifle to group tighter than the WWB 45 gr. hollows. (.223) IMO, great ammo for the money.

It's a little dirty most of the time, but I've never had an issue shooting WWB .45ACP FMJ from my 1911. Great price too.

WWB FMJ is my primary plinking ammo in .223, 9mm, .40S&W and .45ACP. WWB JHP is my primary defensive ammo in .40S&W and .45ACP (9mm, .38spl and .380 I prefer Gold Dots).

I don't get it quite as much in revolver calibers. I do like the .38spl 100 round value packs on occasion though, and I wish they'd add .357mag to that.

I don't think I've ever used it in a rifle caliber other than .223.

For example, WWB 230gr FMJ 45acp ammo is only $9.07 per 50 if you buy 10 boxes or more.

I've shot a lot of WWB in .45 ACP and especially .38 Special, and some in 9mmP. I like it a lot.
