Well, I thought all of you were pulling my leg about the Winchester White Box at Wal-Mart. You weren't. I went tonight and they had not one, not two, but THREE boxes of .45 ACP!!! Imagine my suprise. I bought them all and two boxes of 9 mm to boot. For the life of me, I don't know why they cannot keep this stuff in stock.

I wish that Walmart would get Win White box in .308, and also switch from Q3131 to Q3131A in .223. They have only hunting ammo in .308, and the Q3131A is superior. I'd buy both in large quantities in a second.

I did buy .45 JHPs (box of 50 for approx. $18, incl. tax), which I plan to feed my carry gun. It is a cheap way to practice with exactly the same ammo that you actually carry (can't say that about Hydra-Shoks).

I wish Wally world stocked .357Sig. I have made my requests known to management. :)

I raided my local Wal-Mart after work tonight, looking for bread, milk and such necessities of life. Walked past Sporting Goods just as they were unpacking - mirabile dictu! - a new supply of Winchester 100-round Value Packs! I bought the four .45 ACP packs they had, and left them with only .40 S&W packs in stock. Another customer arrived just as I was paying for the ammo, and was absolutely disgusted with me for buying "his" ammo! :D

Like I said to him, "You snooze, you lose"...

BTW, Tarpley - folks like you and I are the reason Wally World "cannot keep this stuff in stock"!!! :D

Okay, but if they ordered more than 4 boxes, maybe they wouldn't sell out. Your store, Preacherman, could have sold another 4 boxes right then and there to the other guy. It is obviously a hot item. Why not stock 20 boxes knowing that it will sell in less than a week or two. Sometimes I just don't understand these "Mega Mart" strategies.

I don't know if it is true or not, but I asked the local Wally World Sporting Goods guy about ammo. His vague answer was something about "most ordering done by corporate buyers, we don't have much say in what's on our shelves".

So, I suggested."...Hmmmmm maybe if store manager could pry one of the corporate folks out of Bentnoville, AR for a day or 2, and see what is in demand HERE..."

As far as .223 is concerned, Q3131 is US made, Q3131A is Israeli. Israeli is better than US? What have you experienced to indicate Israeli Winchester ammo is better than US Winchester ammo?

value pack of 40 for 14 dollars here in Reno!!!

happy camper i was.

WWB rules.

BTW they did have .223 40 round packs for 7 bucks. 55 grain

The Israeli (Q3131A) is IIRC actually mil-spec SS109 ammo, better brass.

The Q3131 is NOT milspec, thinner brass and not as hot a load.

There's a thread over on AR15.com all about this, FWIW.

The next time you see that SG clerk, smack some sense into him. Tell his manager that he didnt pay attention to the training videos, and God knows what else he doesnt know/refuses to learn.

By this I mean that Wal-mart's restocking procedures is all done by computer and has been for years. Once something is bought, it goes into a database as having been bought and that store #XXX is less one item. Once it is in the DB as having been purchased, another is ordered for that store, unless it is a seasonal item (like Christmas stuff in January). I am sure however that Dept. Managers and up can make individual requests or stays of purchase on items however, but I cannot say that for certain unlike the rest of the above. Such information necessities are the exact reason that so many people are pulled directly from the Wal-mart College of Megabucks here at the the University of Arkansas. Many CompEngie's and CompInfoSys majors are hired from here.

All of the above about Walmart's ordering system (except part mentioned) is taught to all Wally World employees.

Theyre bound to keep some ammo in the back somewhere, I can buy the last two .45 valuepacks and theres two more there the next day. At my local range its a different story.

I usually buy two valuepacks a weekend and shoot one. That way, if I hit a financial speedbump (like now) I can still go shoot. I had a nice little stockpile of ammo but shot it all without realizing it, so its also a good way to get re-stocked without ordering a case.

My understanding is that the Israeli ammo is different (otherwise why bother giving them a different designation). My experience in having shot both from the same rifle is that the Israeli ammo is more accurate. Why? I don't know and don't care. Friends of mine in various parts of the country confirm the same results.

BTW, the brass IS better for reloading (its thicker, so you get an extra load or two out of each case).

Hmmmmm I asked the cute little sporting goods girl if she could order me a case of the 9mm. She took down my name in a little binder that they had and low and behold a week later she called me saying that my order was in.

Maybe I just got lucky...Maybe I just sweet talked her into it. I now know her hours and all I do is ask her and she gets it.

I hope she doesn't quit anytime soon.:D :D

the skinny on Wally World ammo ordering

As an ex WallyWorld Assistant Manager, and the husband of a current sporting goods associate I figured I could clue ya'll into getting the ammo that you want (and I get).

The ammo (and just about everything else) can be ordered manually on a handheld Telxon (pronounced telzon) or at a terminal, and is also automatically replenished (in theory) when scanned at the register. The reason that your local store runs out of Winchester white box is because they are apparently numb and could not merchant their way out of the proverbial wet paper bag. What you need to do is to corner the Co-Manager or Manager and BADGER the you know what out of them. Tell them that you want them to order 20 or ten or however many boxes of whatever and to hold them in your name. If they fail to do so, contact the home office and I assure you that your local store will accomodate you in the future.
