OK- snow outside. 20's and 30's temps. Is it odd to open the safe every now and again and caress my firearms and promise that I will see them soon, when it gets warmer? How do you cope with the winter?!!!

I have 3 or 4 that I haven't shot yet and another 10 that I haven't shot in a while and another 10 that I haven't shot and don't plan on shooting soon but miss them all the same.

And would it be wrong to build a small tactical range in my backyard? Oh yea, I live in a subdivision. But I did say 'small' tactical range.

20's and 30's? it's 46 outside right now in Southern Michigan:)

Personally, I am lucky... i walk out back of the shop, hang a target in my bullet trap or in the target frame in front of the backstop and commence to shooting.. nothing but corn stubble (at the moment) for a 1/2 mile (or further) in any direction...

Yea, today's a great day, but it's MI and it won't stay.

I could shoot in the cold (and have) but when you're dealing with the cold and the wind and etc etc,.... it's not preferable.

You know what- it is nice out and I'm gonna load a few boys in the trunk and go shoot. Thanks for the encouragement. :)

Gimme a break! You can't live your life going from your house to the car to work. From work to the car to the house!. 20s and 30s? That's warm up in Michigan! How can someone hole up all winter long until it hits the what? 50s and 60s?. You only got one life to live, get a good pair of gloves and dress in layers. Get outdoors.

Crap on that! The older I get, the less I like life here in the Great Frozen Lake State. Or Alaska south as we sometimes call it. 50s tomorrow and Sunday; that's more to my liking. But if it never went below 60 here, I'd like that just fine. Trying to get the wife to move at retirement. Tennessee looks good.

To the OP, I sometimes take mine out to "inspect and clean," you know, to make sure there is no rust and that the dessicant is still doing it's job. Actually it's to look at them, fondle them, make sure they're still there, etc. And frankly, sometimes you guys want pictures of something, so out they come again at those times.:D

And sometimes I forget what I have. So back out for inventory.

I spent quite a few winters in Michigan, then quite a few more in Wisconsin and Minnesnowta.

My solution to the problem of winter was to move to California, only to discover I'd lost my civil rights.

Winters in Colorado are less awful than those in the upper mid-west. It helps that I work in an indoor range; unfortunately, I'm too workaholic to take time off to shoot very often. Winter damaged my mind, I think.

How do I cope with MI winters? By shooting.

Bundle up...propane heater...extra coat...thermos of coffee. Don't worry about the caffine or how it'll affect your groups... just say you were cold! Take some buddies and head for the range!

Mark.

move to texas, no state income tax, nice weather (usually under 105 for some of the year:eek: ), hunt all year and shoot all year:rolleyes:

Tennessee gets cold too! Don't believe that hype the further south you get the warmer it gets. I went duck hunting in 8 degree weather in Morgan County Georgia in December. It get cold in Ga but not as cold and not as long. I hate long hot and humid summers, the south can take one of those Mosin bayos and stick it when it comes to those summers. Those Dog Days suck. I will take 20 degrees any day of the week.

We have about 20 inches of snow here. The cold has never been an issue. The problem is that the state plows the snow into 10 foot high piles in front of the gates at the range, and usually bury the gate too. So getting to the range is my biggest problem. Oh well it'll all be melted in a couple weeks.

It seems like most people do just that until it's in the 60s, then once it hits the high 70s they do it again. I can't imagine having such a small temperature window for spending time outside. Doubly so for a shooter.

When it comes to shooting, winter means trap & skeet for me. Our league at work runs from January until April and I can't imagine missing it just because it's a bit chilly out.

I'll give you a hint: Blackhawk posted a picture of me. :)

Tomorrow should be muddy. That'll be different. :)

Well today it was pushing 80 degrees so I just put on a pair of cut off pants and a T-shirt and head to the range for a little fun in the sun. Oh well, of course this is Texas.:neener:

I'm wearing a T-shirt today... and yesterday... and the day before... it was cold the day before that though... I had on a long sleve shirt!

:neener:  :neener:
