I'd recommend not linking to the NRA or a Lott article--people see NRA and think "oh, this is so biased", people see Lott and immediately dismiss him because of that stupid business with Mary Rosh.

There is in no way any of that crap here! Who is the idiot that printed that? Here in SC we wait 90 days to the day. We go through and extensive background check by S.L.E.D. and FBI check. We have to show successful completion of a course instructed by a state certified instructor and have a minimum of 21 yrs of age. The course is 1/2 legals and the next half is shooting. Who is this idiot who spews forth Bovine Excrement with no info to back it. I'd like to slap the taste out of-> I'm sorry I'm on the high road...

Well, I think the lesson learned here is not to refer to gunowners of any stripe as "marginal types" as well as not to speculate on the number of unknown but large number of street fights. They couldn't have written it better if they'd tried. The fact that it was handed to them on a silver platter by a gun enthusiast website makes it all the better for them.

I think this is a lesson we all need to understand and recognize. Whenever we make comments about crap guns, saturday night specials, etc., or the "types" that own them, we have to recognize that we are giving the other side what they want to hear: sound bites from gunowners that support the other side.
