Would it be dangerous?

I thought it was illegal (in Colorado at least) to use a vehicle as a shooting rest. I believe it's also illegal to even rest or lean a loaded gun against a vehicle.

Laws / Regs peculiar to Colorado? Or was this just intended for the hunting situation?

ETA I long ago decided to accept a certain loss of brass no matter what I did.

If your other hobby is bodywork and you like touching up paint chips, have fun.

Your use of the word “backstop” in conjunction with THE REST OF THE STORY and the context in which it was used was absolutely not a problem. The reading comprehension of others seems to be the issue.
Which is the way I understood it.

Perhaps you could find the position that would allow the bras to enter an open window on the vehicle.

If you decide to allow your brass to enter an open window for collection later, just make sure not to drive that vehicle to Mexico. One stray piece of brass could land you in a Mexican prison.

That's true. BTW, it is fun to take a vehicle tactics class where you get to shoot into vehicles and out out vehicles. Old junkers!
Shoot from a moving vehicle with one hand - makes you appreciate automatic transmission.
