If supressors are legal in your state, unless the local fish and game department had a regulation against it (poachers might use them), I don't see why not.

I'd guess exactly what 0007 does. Check with DNR/DFG or whatever you call it. They might have a restriction to prevent poaching.

In a sense, it makes sense (does that make sense?).

Especially if you wish not to disturb the chance of other hunters bagging game. A supressed shot would, I'm assumming, keep other game from running away.

In Texas it is legal to hunt non game animals with a supressor... Hogs, coyotes, etc

In England its becoming more and more popular to have a silencer on fullbore rifles. My mate in Scotland has one on his Sako .270 WSM he say its very good and the rifle still shoots well. The down side it makes the rifle very long and unbalanced. I was back in England last July and shot a roe buck using a Blaser R93 in .243 fitted with a silencer it worked OK but again the weapons balance was not good. I have a silencer for my CZ 452 a great tool for bunny bashing.
Here in Sweden they have changed the law this year so we can have silencers on hunting rifles

That depends. The short answer is Yes…..if the hunter possesses a class III federal firearms license to own such devices. The use of a suppressed firearm (silencers) for hunting is illegal for anyone that does not possess such a federal license.

Wisconsin law does not prohibit the use of a class three suppressed weapon for hunting. Federal Law controls the legal possession and use of a class three suppressed weapon. The individual and weapon must have proper verification and certification of compliance from the Department of the Treasury, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. If the individual complies with all requirements of Wisconsin law, Wisconsin hunting regulations and Federal Law he may hunt with a class three suppressed weapon.

For Va., suppressed weapons are not explicitly mentioned. Full-auto is not permitted.

if your job requires that you employ the use of a firearm on a regular basis (gamekeeper, veterinarian etc etc) health&safety law in the uk REQUIRES that the muzzle report of the firearm be below a 'safe' threshold for human ears, WITHOUT the use of ear defenders. this usually means a big suppressor and/or subsonic ammunition.

if you have a firearms licence in the UK, adding a suppressor to a firearm is as easy as buying it and writing the details down on your certificate.

Most other countries in Europe have common access to suppressors too. Its one of the common things we see especially in countries like Norway and Finland.

It would help if in the US they made it easier to own them, especially in the 15 states they are banned and their allowance during hunting makes total sense but only a fraction of states allow it.

I have been thinking about a subsonic rifle project for a long time. I'd like to do a .300 or .338 whisper on a savage or remington 700, with a heavy barrel. There wouldn't be much point though if you couldn't hunt with it; I don't mind making loud noises at a range.
