Glock 19 comparison

Kerank,
A friend of mine bought a Glock 19 yesterday and we went to the range to test it out. I had brought my P-01 so of course we shot both. I was much more accurate with my gun as I should be but the Glock shot very well. My friend also shot better with the P-01 as did the two other folks with us. Point being, if you shoot well with the 19 you are really going to like the P-01 I think. In all the talk about the CZ triggers, I have never heard anyone mention that it affected their aim:scrutiny: The trigger is much different than any of my 1911's but there is no doubt that it is extremely accurate which makes it my first line of defense until I can get to the shotgun.

My trigger is great. I pulled the group out and decreased creep by about 60% and then drilled/tap an overtravel adjustment in the trigger itself. Other than that, mine's totally stock. Great gun.

I have not tried a gun that fits my hand better, and the P-01 has been 100% reliable and very accurate. It shoots better for me than any other gun I've tried. CZs are very underrated guns.

Hard to go wrong with the P-01. I started with an SP-01, loved it, and picked up a P-01 for CCW. Don't shoot the SP-01 enough anymore, since most of my range work is with the P-01 as well. Great gun, feels like CZ made it to fit my hand, specifically.

The-Fly's buddy here. That CZ P01 has been awesome. It went something like 2300 rounds without ever being cleaned or lubed with no failures - then I had 2 failures to go into battery that were mag related. It fits my hand better than a Glock 19 of the same size, because the finger grooves in Glocks tend to not be where my fingers are, and the grip fills my hand better (thin fingers, large palm). The trigger is very smooth, the gun points well, and the bore axis is low so the felt recoil goes straight back instead of flipping the muzzle up.

The Kadet will run about a brick and a half of .22LR before it needs a shot of CLP. The sights on the Kadet are target-grade and windage/elevation click adjustable. It is accurate enough to ping a 10" by 18" plate at 125 yards offhand, 10/10 times.

Picked out my P-01 yesterday

Well guys, I made the leap. I was having trouble finding someone other than Academy Sports that had a P-01 in stock. So, I tried a shop a little further away from me. I struck gold! They had 7 new and used P-01s in stock. Three of them were OD Green, but I chose the black. Are green ones hard to find?

I was having a hard time deciding between a new one and a used one that looked new. I was a little nervous about not knowing the history of the used one, so the guy told me to go shoot it...and he supplied 50 rounds of FMJ ammo (I bought 20 JHP Hydra-shocks to test feeding reliability). Put 70 quick rounds through it, right hand, left hand, limp wristing, and normal. It was flawless...and what a shooter :D . Needless to say the used one went home with me! Why haven't I heard of these before now :what: ???? I think I shoot it better than my G19 (it's very accurate). I'll reserve that judgment until I have a chance to get both to the range at the same time. I'll do business with these guys again, friendly and got to try-before-you-buy.

After that, I couldn't stop thinking about my purchase, so I "shirked" my other responsibilities for the day and got to my usual range in time to put 150 more rounds of various FMJ an JHP through it. Did I mention, I like this gun a lot :D

I realize I may have "new-gun-ietous", so I'll stop short of naming it my favorite until I get several more range sessions under my belt. Speaking of belt...somebody tell me what my options are for leather or kydex holsters, please.

P.S. I'm really having to control my temptation to go pick up an OD Green one. Please don't tell me they are rare, or hard to find...that may put me over the top, and get me in real trouble with the wife  .

Thanks for all your responses!

Welcome, friend, as you step into the CZ Zone...
There is a place for you - czforum.com . Lotsa CZ info, plus the PO1 club has the holster chart.
A quick one available almost anywhere is the Bianchi M-100 IWB, one I use. Cheaper at under $50, and pretty darn good. That's it in my set of pictures, "Companions".
Your wife is gonna hate me...the OD ones are not common.
I carry my PO1 all the time, great pistol.

Gordon: I learned on the cz forum that I could take a small file and round off the sharp edges on the trigger. This will stop the trigger from irritating your finger. It took several sessions but I finally got the trigger so that it doesn't bother my trigger finger now. :)

I bought a Glock 19 in 1992. Worked great for 14 years. I picked up a P-01 to see what all talk was about, and loved it. I sold the Glock, and am now on my third P-01.
They are both about the same size.
They are both totally reliable.
The P-01 is more accurate.
The P-01 has second strike ability on a round.

Make sure you get a Kadet .22LR kit for that thing now! Whittakerguns.com has them for $239.

NO!!!

DON'T BUY a P-01! I am warning you right now!

IT IS NOT WORTH IT!

If you buy a P-01, the available P-01's will be less....then my local Sportsman's (where I have $275 in a gift card to spend)....will be less likely to get mine in. I missed one by one day two weeks ago :banghead: and I'm losing my patience!:cuss:

You don't want to contribute to my anguish. SO, Please don't buy one.

PS... They are unreliable,...made from cheap soft metal, trusted by no military forces, or police forces, and I'm not aware of any loyal CZ followers. ;)

*Dang! Just saw that you already bought it! Thanks a lot.

Took my P01 for a spin after work last evening. Blue sky, fresh breeze.

It is an impressive pistol. Compact, nice weight, clear sight picture. I especially love the grip ergonomics -- practically perfect.

400 rounds to date without a hitch.

I have found the P-01 to be accurate with all quality ammo (I plink with Federal AE 124 grain ball), but it really rocks with the hot Black Hills 124 grain JHP+P, tipped with Hornady XTPs. That's my carry load. Slams down the falling plates with authority. Truly accurate. My full-length CZ 75B also loves it.

Only two complaints:

1. The P-01's first-shot DA trigger is rough. No problem for coarse shooting, but a hassle for fine work. I'm hoping it will smooth in like the DA on my 75B did. (And it did! Somewhere around 1500 rounds that trigger became light and dead smooth. Love it now. Ironic, since the DA trigger on the 75B is totally optional, and it's even a bit of a hassle to use, since you have to manually lower the hammer. The decocker-equipped P-01's DA trigger is mandatory for the first shot; I wish I could switch its DA stroke with the 75B's.)

2. Having trouble finding full-capacity 14-round compact magazines right now. CZ's website didn't have them when I last checked. Online sites used to have Mec-Gar (the OEM) full-capacity magazines, but I haven't seen any in stock lately. CZ needs to get on the ball with that. My two 10-rounders work perfectly, FWIW.

Absolutely get the P-01. It's an outstanding gun! I have the CZ 75 BD, which is essentially a full sized version of the P-01. CZs are highly addictive, though, so beware!

Thanks, skers69. Alas, CDNN is "Out of Stock" when you click on the listing for the 14-round mags. They've got the 10-rounders. Same situation I'm seeing elsewhere.

My best friend has one and I had a chance to shoot it a bit. Fantastic handgun. My only gripe is the weight for extended carry and even that is almost a quibble. If I was going to buy a 9mm, it would be either that or the Walther P99. My only regret is that they don't make one in .45ACP.

I really like mine, its much more accurate than I am. The local range guru was knocking out the numbers at 15 yds no problem with mine. I can't say I have that ability yet... Only problem I've got is the trigger wears out my finger after 100 rounds or so. But I've read a lot of people switch the trigger out and love it. I think it's a great gun for the money, and it's all metal if that's your thing. Good luck.:)

*Just saw that you bought it already, If you don't mind pm me the name and location of the gun shop. I'm in KY but not too far away from middle TN. I just might have to find one of those OD green P-01s...
