would you buy a PT1911

I did, I got the SS last week. Took it to the range last night and ran 200 rds thru it without a hitch. I am very pleased. A bunch of guys I was with (far more knowledgeable than me) like the gun as well. I have, so far really enjoyed it. I am also doing really good with my Mil Pro PT145. I so far have had real good luck with Taurus.

I have 1,200 rounds through mine, all trouble free. It's a good gun.

As long as the lifetime warranty is transferable, I would snatch it.

My family of daughters and son-in laws all have Taurus handguns, eight in all, not a single problem with any of them.
You will find problems with any gun at some point in time, I don't care how " high end" it is, being the number of them out there and the owners.
The snobs that say Taurus is no good, are just that, SNOBS, ya, thats it, SNOBS.
And I say this because it's true, and I don't own a Taurus, I am a CZ guy, so there, a lot of guys, they just flap, no idea what they are talking about.:D

NO, well for $400 maybe. It is what it is.....wait a minute; it is a Taurus so back to NO.

Take that $400 and buy a RIA.

Lack of Customer Service is the key. If Clint Smith calls I bet he will get handled a little different then if I call. Burn me once (well ok, a shooting buddy) and I am gone....

I have seen all brands have to go back to the Hospital,Yes even the sacred gluck. The pt1911 is a good weapon . I know this from experience. Others do to.

It just doesn't have snob appeal:rolleyes:.

Not trying to start anything just an observation. As in racing run what ya brung. different strokes and all that.:p:p:p

if the price was right like $400 out the door, or even a little more then yeah i would get one. i wouldn't mind having one. they are nice for the price, and there are many many rave reviews about them everywhere.

Lets see. It seems the knocks seem to revolve around issues with Customer service. In my case, not Internet rumor, not a message I got from a friend of a friend, but what I witnessed.

The enlighten crew scream "snob" if you dare question anything about a firearm of their choosing.

So yes, my answered is based upon experience. Can you say the same? Or is " I have never called Taurus so therefore no problem exists" your answer.

Should we start a poll about response to Taurus Customer service? OK, so everyone, what has your experience with Taurus been?

Yes

Bought a blue one when they first came out $450.00. Can't say enough positives about it. Broke in after about 50 rounds.. in accuracy and touch. Don't care for the sights much, more my eyes than anything else. Liked it enough, bought the Stainless for $525.00 when it became available. It now rides under my coat when the weather permits. They attract a lot of attention at the range... the Taurus stigma intitially but after I lend them out for a few rounds, comments are universally positive.

No. Not when I can get a new RIA or a used Colt for a similar price. I wouldn't buy one anyway, simply because of the quality control and customer service issues. I've got enough headaches in my life.

well as i thought love it or hate it,

i have had 3 Taurus guns so far and all have been trouble free for me.;)

So I bought it.:neener:

sad thing is it has to set there till sat to clear the police check on the gun:cuss:

it was a trade in and has to set 10 days:banghead:

AS WITH THINGS IN LIFE YOU JUST HAVE TO DECIDE FOR YOUR SELF.
I'LL FIND OUT SAT if it is a POS or not.
I'LL put 5-6 hundred rounds down her then. If she chokes I'll just have to divorce her.

Got about the same type response when I started asking about the desert eagle 50 and the PT145, bought them also, again trouble free. NO BRASS TO THE HEAD from the DE and no jams from the PT

i do agree there probable are some bad ones out there but that is the same in life,
the difference here is the mid range guns when they act up there a POS
but the high dollar ones ARE JUST BREAKING IN.

(i saw that frase somewere around here);)

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO

Chevelle427 nailed it.
Oh ya, I'm having a little feeding problems with my custom nitrate, cobalt titanium 1911 but hey it's just briken in.
What a joke.

I like my PT1911, which I bought new for $499. You can get the same deal at Bud' s now.

Other people will pay more for used guns than I will. If I only had $400 to spend I would look hard at the RIA tactical...but I would probably, grudgingly, wind up with the used PT1911. The figure 8 sights would push me in that direction.

Honestly, I would spring for a stainless for $170 extra.

+1 on Hoffy's comment. My only complaint is the bluing, which is pretty sad.

I bought one for $425 that had exactly 50 rounds down the pipe. :D

My buddy and I went to the store together (just after bonuses were paid at work) to pick out 1911's. There were a couple of dozen to choose from, but we narrowed it down to a Colt series 70 for $650, a Kimber Carry II for $599, the PT1911 for $425, or one of several new Springfield GIs for just over $500.

My buddy got the Colt, 'cause he insisted on a horsie. :p The Kimber was eliminated because it looked a little ragged-out. I got the Taurus because of them all, it had the best slide-to-frame fit and best trigger. It then proceded to shoot groups half the size of the Colt. OK, the sample size isn't big enough to conclude anything meaningful, and I know it... but neither is anybody else's anecdote.

Now, I probably would not have bought one sight unseen, as I concede that there is probably some truth to Taurus' QA and TS being hit-and-miss. I also would be wary of Taurus designed pistols based on my experience with an early 24x7 .45.

...but this is a 1911, and closer to mil-spec (as far as parts interchangability goes) than most on the market.

No regrets on the purchase.

I am up to just under 10K rounds through my PT1911, and have never had a problem. Ever. Has been fed everything I have been able to get my grubby little hands on, and it digests them all just fine. Am torn between getting the stainless version, or getting an officer model for CCW from a different maker. I love my PT1911. Sorry some of you got hosed, and others choose to make a judgement on a gun you do not own.

Enjoy your 1911!
